Windows Defender/Windows Live One Care

I formerly used Windows Defender, but it was apparently deleted when I

installed Windows Live One Care. I still have the MsMpEng.exe process,

however, with all it's grabby ways, which Task Manager shows as running

when I notice drastic slowdowns on my machine. Is this process an essential

part of Live One Care ? Would appreciate any help on this one.

The current version of OneCare includes Defender. I very much doubt that

Defender (or MsMpEng.exe, specifically) has anything to do with the

"slowdowns".

There are OneCare-specific newsgroups and web-forums where you can seek

support and ask questions.
