Windows Defender

Is Windows Defender supposed to be disabled if one has, say, NIS or KIS

installed?

If so, how does one disable Windows Defender?

Or, is it necessary only to change certain settings?

Why do you wish to disable it?

Provided any scheduled scanning doesn't coincide with your AV scanning it

should be fine.

Turns out that WD is disabled.

NIS 2008 install must have done that.

I NEVER schedule AV scans.

Only run manually.

Windows Defender coexists peacefully with both Norton and Kaspersky. Using

multiple anti-spywares simultaneously is a good idea, since no single one

has a sufficient detection rate. If you have enough system resources, I

recommend you reenable it.

NIS is causing problems, so I intend to do the following:

1.Use the Norton Removal Tool to kill Live update and NIS.

2. In the registry, get rid of all visible references to Symantec and

Norton.

3. Enable Windows Defender.

4. Install KIS.

But first, I have to read the KIS manual, etc.
