Windows Security Center preventing McAfee from running

I just got a new comp with Vista on it, and have just installed McAfee virus

protection software. In the Windows Security Center window though, under

Malware Protection, it says that McAfee Virus Scan is turned off. So I

selected "Turn on now", and then a Windows Security Center window comes up

saying "You are about to run a program that did not come with Windows. Do you

trust this program?" and I select "Yes, I trust this program and am ready to

run it" and a user account control window comes up saying "a program needs

your permission to conitnue" - the program listed being Virus Scan

Enterprise, McAfee Inc. When I select Continue, that window disappears, but

then nothing happens, i.e. McAfee does not run. So McAfee remains turned off.

Any ideas on how I can get McAfee to run?

Do you have the latest version of McAfee Enterprise, one that definitely

works with Vista? Because it sounds like you're trying to install an older

version that isn't compatible.

If you are using a current version, contact McAfee for help with their

software.

Same here, and it was the McAfee bundled with the Vista laptop.

Same here - sort of a silent failure -- really aggravating!!

I finally used the admin account (admin approval mode) and the right

click context menu offering of "run as administrator" which ended up

working for me - until it expired and I switched to Avast! antivirus.

(had a free trial offer for Norton too - but I knew I was going to go

for one of the free ones eventually, so why clutter up my PC with

Norton droppings)
