wipe hard drive and reload windows vista

I would like to wipe my hard drive and then reload Windows vista business 32bit from my original cd/dvd's, What is the best way to do this and what should i save before i undertake such an action. I have been having a series of problems with my computer and the last correction process was the Iolo sytem mechanic (which should come with warnings) which has managed to destroy my windows installer. should i save programs separate from files etc.
