Keith Karnatz, 23, of Grand Rapids, who had been missing since Friday,

was found in a Saratoga residence -- hours after investigators called

off the search.

Karnatz's discovery came after volunteers from more than 20 emergency

agencies helped search an area that stretched from Wisconsin Rapids to

Karnatz's Grand Rapids residence during a period of three days. On

Tuesday, the search for Karnatz continued until 4:30 p.m., when Grand

Rapids Fire Chief Scott Bernette told volunteers the search was over.

He said volunteers had searched all the designated areas.

Wisconsin Man Accused of Chaining and Sexually Assaulting 2 Men

Wednesday, July 09, 2008

WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wisconsin ?

A 46-year-old man abducted two men in their 20s, chained them up at

his rural house and sexually assaulted them before one managed to

escape and get help, according to court documents filed Wednesday.

Edward Lanphear, 46, was ordered held on $1 million bond, but court

records online did not show charges filed against him as of Wednesday

evening. The Wood County jail confirmed he remained in custody but

would not release any attorney information for him.

A 23-year-old man was held in Lanphear's home from Saturday until

Tuesday, according to an affidavit filed by sheriff's investigators

seeking support for Lanphear's arrest. The young man had told friends

Friday that he was going to walk home after a fireworks show, the

Wisconsin Rapids Daily Tribune reported.

Lanphear was driving the man home when he pulled over, told him he was

a police officer and handcuffed him, the affidavit said.

When one of the handcuffs became loose, Lanphear hit the man in the

head and knocked him out, the document said. When the man revived, he

was chained up in Lanphear's basement.

The affidavit said Lanphear used a knife to cut off the man's clothing

and sexually assaulted him at least three times while he was

restrained.

The document says Lanphear attached a string to a shotgun and

connected the string to the man's chains, warning him that if he moved

the gun would shoot him, the affidavit says.

Another affidavit says that sometime Sunday or Monday a 21-year-old

man got drunk at a Wisconsin Rapids bar and passed out in his car,

then later woke up naked and hanging in Lanphear's garage by locked

chains.

He told authorities Lanphear hit him with a metal pipe and sexually

assaulted him. His hands were bound by chains and flex cuffs, and he

was blindfolded, the affidavit says.

The man somehow escaped and fled, still wearing chains, to a house

across the street, where people there called police. Officers who went

to the scene found the 23-year-old in the basement.

The 23-year-old was taken to a hospital and treated for injuries, but

the affidavits don't give information about medical treatment of the

other man.

The 21-year-old man identified his captor, saying Lanphear frequented

the same Wisconsin Rapids bar, the documents said.

Scary. So how would you guys feel if this sorta thing was a common occurance as often as it happens to women?

Stef, I wouldn't care if it happened to men as often. I would only care if it happened to ME. That said, what IF you got anally raped as often as women get raped? You don't? Ok, then. Just making sure.

What's the logic in that?

That being vaginally raped is somehow better than being anally raped?

That's because you like it up the pipe hole, JAW. You're not like the average person.

No. The logic is that her question about how we would feel if it were a common occurrence makes no sense. She doesn't get raped once every two minutes and neither do I. {Source} Even if it were more frequent, I wouldn't have to worry about it. And if she doesn't dress like she wants 4 ***** in her while a camera's filming her upcoming bukakke, then she'll be fine ;) The majority of rape victims know their rapist. So...stay away from rapists. It helps. {Source}

The question makes a great deal of sense. The fact is I think one reason solo outdoors activities is mainly the providence of men is due to the fact women are at greater risk when engaging in such activities.

Reminds me of a joke.

A man escapes from a prison where he had been kept for 15 years. As he runs away, he finds a house and breaks into it, looking for money and guns, but only finds a young couple in bed.

He orders the guy out of bed and ties him up in a chair. While tying the girl up to the bed, he gets on top of her, kisses her on the neck, then gets up, and goes to the bathroom.

While he's in there, the husband tells his wife, "Listen, this guy is an escaped prisoner, look at his clothes! He probably spent lots of time in jail, and hasn't seen a woman in years. I saw how he kissed your neck. If he wants ***, don't resist, don't complain, just do what he tells you, just give him satisfaction. This guy must be dangerous, if he gets angry, he'll kill us. Be strong, honey. I love you.", to which the wife responds, "He was not kissing my neck. He was whispering in my ear. He told me he was gay, thought you were cute, and asked if we kept any Vaseline in the bathroom. Be strong, honey, I love you, too.

There is a park I go to that is very isolated and you are pretty much by yourself. I go there to get away from it all. Only took the wife there once. The fact is rapists do influence a woman's options, they do not influence a man's, unless he is in the company of a woman.

Finally, someone who gets my point. Like if it's late at night and we need milk or something from the store. The store is within walking distance. Do I go or do I send my boyfriend to go? The boyfriend of course.

I've had the urge to go for a walk or running at night. Do I go by myself, hellz no! I talk the boyfriend into going with me. Even to walk the dog late at night. If I had a huge, powerful dog that would be a different story, but you guys have seen our dog:p We obviously didn't get her for protection.

I run at night a lot. I think an attacker would have his hands full...or at least he wouldn't STILL be in the mood.
