Wolf Creek is a story based off of primarily the notorious Aussie murderer Ivan Milat. It makes a claim of being based on true events, but this REALLY is not the case. None the less, the movie was actually pretty damn good. It probably would have been better if I could have understood the entire dialogue, but it was set in Australia and had Aussie actors of course, so the Aussie accent can throw you off a bit. I liked the bad guy character, he made you think he was a good guy for quite a while, you actually expected something bad to happen to the people from someone else... like maybe the restaurant guys were the bad guys... The hack, slash and kill scenes were pretty damn gruesome, I would NOT compare it to Texas Chainsaw Massacre like many have, I think this movie holds it's own in the horror genre. I would even go far as to say a sequel might even be cool if properly written..

 

Over all, I give this movie a 4 out of 5 and recommend it for torrenting... or renting at your local video store.

John Jarrant stars, and yeah, this is his first role where he plays the nasty guy. His casting in the role raised a few eyebrows, considering Aussies are used to his cheery disposition on renovation programs, but he did surprisingly well.

 

As for Milat, the truth behind his evil will probably never be known, because only one of his intended victims escaped to tell the tale, and most of his victims were so badly decomposed when they were found that forensics could shed little light on the cause/s of death.

 

I guess we'll be seeing a few less backpackers wandering the outback.

 

If you can get past the first half hour of utter bore, it's a pretty good movie. I recommend fast forwarding the movie by 25 mins.

Low budget, typical slasher movie. It was alright, but I wouldn't spend money on it. Wait for it to show on cable TV. It was really slow to start.
