Guest Casey Cavanaugh
Greetings, I'm not entirely sure if this is the best place to post this issue, as it spans a little into Windows 7. This issue has been plaguing me for the last couple of days; I have two Guardian Maximus external RAID enclosures (http://bit.ly/rrSQd), one of which shows up perfectly fine in XP, using every type of cable it has a port for, while the other will only show up under the "safely remove hardware" icon. The problem drive will not show up in Disk Management or using the diskpart "list disk" command either. So far I have resorted to formatting the drive in question using Windows 7, which will see the drive via both USB and FireWire (didn't have an e-Sata port). However, when the drive is initialized for formatting, it splits into two unallocated chunks, one a little over 2TB and the other roughly 750GB. Windows will only allow me to format the 2TB unallocated chunk and will not allow me to extend the partition. While this is not directly related to the drive not mounting in XP, I feel this may contribute to that issue. After formatting the drive in 7, XP still cannot see the drive using USB or FireWire, but when it is plugged in via e-Sata it will mount and only show the 750GB unallocated chunk. The drive, however, will mount in Windows 7 and OSX just fine. The XP machine is a Dell Latitude E6500 and the Windows 7 machine is an Alienware M11x. The working Array is 2TB and the problematic Array is 3TB, both are in RAID 1. Let me know if I left out any crucial information and thanks in advance for any assistance, Casey. Continue reading...
