New York Yankees right-hander Masahiro Tanaka had a bone spur removed from his pitching elbow on Tuesday and is expected to be ready to go for spring training in February. The Yankees said the spur was a pre-existing condition from Tanaka's career in Japan, before he moved to the major leagues with the Yankees paying the Rakuten Golden Eagles a $20 million posting fee before inking him to a $155 million, seven-year deal prior to the 2014 season. Surgeon David Altchek said the operation went as expected and recovery should take six weeks.
