The Cubs won their first title since 1908 and ended the longest sports title drought in American history by edging the Cleveland Indians 8-7 in the early hours of Thursday morning to capture Major League Baseball's best-of-seven final four games to three. The Cubs had not reached the World Series since 1945, supposedly victims of the "Curse of the Billy Goat," imposed by a tavern owner who was ejected along with his goat from a Series game at Wrigley Field and vowed the Cubs would never win again.
