TommyGun1928 Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 It pisses me off that everything has to be so ridiculously unbelievable. I mean, come the fuck on-- we're on some random planet within a Universe that runs on constants, like those found in physics, that can only be described as being... strange! Take gravity, for example. No one's ever answered the question of why all objects are attracted to those of a higher mass-- they just know that that's what happens. What about when Einstein looked at physics? Everything gains mass as it moves... when an object reaches the speed of light, its mass becomes infinite. I mean, when you really get down to it, the entire Universe seems to have been programmed to work a certain way. The "Universal laws", or "Constants" are so unconvincingly real, that they seem to have been jotted down last minute by some celestial force. Even worse, we have to look at ourselves once in a while. We come from a place of non-existance -- if it is a place at all -- and live as minds controlling single bodies. Being animals, we have to consume certain substances to release the energy stored in their chemical bonds to survive. At the same time, we have to maintain our bodily structures by consuming other things, like water, and even ground minerals. That's pretty weird already, but what about the concept of 'conciousness'? How does one acheive this self-awareness? If you were to build a robotic mind, would it eventually become self-aware? Will it express "wants" and "dislikes", as well as pleasure and suffering? The bottom line is, the Universe is fucking weird and with so many unanswered questions, it's just an aimless crawl towards death. That sucks. Really. Quote

Bullbar Posted July 16, 2006 Posted July 16, 2006 But then I start thinking about 'what is life?' I mean... everything is just constructs of atoms and whatnot, so what makes us different from any given inanimate object and gives us these thoughts and the ability to realise that we are aware? Quote

Oh and here's some rep.{TAKES ANOTHER BONG HIT, AND SAYS :} Well shit, think about it, the lowest fucking form of life are the amoeba. The command that keeps them alive and reproducing in these little one celled creatures, is Eat/Fuck/Die. They take in nutrients (eat), then reproduce (fuck), then die off after they have exceeded their purpose and means of reproducing (die). This simple rule applies to EVERY species on the planet. But then, let's not make this a fucking 8th grade science class, for that there is always WIKPEDIA . The point is, that is all we ever REALLY need to do. If anything is weird about it, it is the fact that we as humans have evolved enough to ponder our existence. {Bogarts the bong...takes another hit... passes it on} . . RobertY7 Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 I can't think about these sorts of things because, usually I am stoned, usually I am also thinking... but i never let myself get consumed by these kinds of thoughts... YES these are all weird things, what is the point of eat, fuck, die...what do we achieve? we have proven we are one planet in a universe of trillions following the same laws and constants (so we think) as other planets... or is that the truth? If you want weird stuff to think about, go deeper then the question of why we're here and where we're going...and more about what YOU are doing. Be selfish, it's ok honestly. As a race and species, human beings are FUCKED!!! absolutely... We not ony kill each other, but we design faster more effective more wide-spread ways of doing so. We have tribes, communities, herds, clicks, groups etc. we quarrel, this is true. The major factor normally contributing to fighting is religion (a product of human ingenuity). If anyone can think of any others to add to the list, in terms of products of our downfall that we created. If you guage our stay here on the planet earth, I think it is coming to an end. Global warming is a natural cycle of the planet earth we add to it though, no doubt. Mass extinction too is part of our earth's natural cycles and last I checked we are coming up on one in the near future (near is relative to the age of earth)... or at least an ice age. Surely it is important to think about the future and the long term thing but to be honest, I don't think that we as human beings are as special as we think we are. we tend to place ourselves above all other creatures on earth simply because we can process thought at a higher level than them. We aren't any less susceptible to the forces on earth then the next creature... and in fact, bacteria are potentially superior to us, they will outlast, outwit and outplay human beings. (sorry for the weak survivor type referencing lol) Its a proven fact. As Phreak said, "Bogart the bong, take another hit....pass it on." If only everyone could see it as simply as you do my friend...if only.. Quote

Catalyst Posted September 3, 2006 Posted September 3, 2006 see, it isn't that we think too deeply that causes the problems. It's the fact thet we don't know how to think properly. I couldn't giva a rat's ass why I exist in this complex universe with incomprehendable laws. That train of thought has no dforseeable end. I care that I AMam here, with enough brains to affect change for however long I may live (and piss off an asshole ot two) Quote

Sly Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 I have a couple of extras for you. The Shelf Theory. which pretty much suggests that exist outside of your visual, audible, and tactile range. EX: When you leave the house to pick up some milk, and you lock the door, how EXACTLY do you know the interrior of the house still exists, or when you drive down the road - all those people you see, all those cars, houses, and telephone poles - how do you know they'll be back when you return? Its as if you put it on a shelf in the back your mind. And the Holographic Paradigm. Too complicated to explain, go here: http://Http://homepage.ihug.co.nz/~sai/hologram.html Quote
