What Pisses You Off?

Since GF is gone and more than likely will be nothing more than a memory soon I'll start a thread to vent about what pisses you off.

 

Me first.

The thing that pisses me off is the way GF was handled after the sale. Most of the old threads were removed. I can understand that. It is something I was thinking of doing. Problem is there were threads that defined what GF was. Those should have remained. Maybe the new owner wanted to make his own mark with the site so in a way I understand the removal of those also. Removing members was another story. OK, remove inactives, I do that, but, to remove the members that were the heart and soul of the site is downright stupid.

The worst part of it all is the loss of traffic. Phreak and I did a lot to build GF and in a short 2 week period it was all destroyed. Does this piss me off the most? Hell yes, but, there is nothing I or anyone else can do about it.

 

In the mean time we'll work our magic and build this site up to prominence. As I said before this is not a replacement for GF, but, instead will be what GF should have been.

Wow. Ok, so I confess freely..I've been away from GF a lot lately. Renovating house, 4 months of gardening, lots to show from it,..but not in threads. But but but...

 

GF down? maybe gone? sold off? threads gone? members shit-canned?

Holy smokes.

 

Sometimes..I'd get busy and come back and see that I'd missed fights and make-ups..but crikes. This is something else.

 

I'm much pleased to find this site..and so far, we've got Snafu and Feck..and and..it will be nice to get the others coming round.

 

CES is up to his ass in water..so once Ohio gets it's shit together I'll invite him round here.

After the site was sold, the first time I came back to find all of our good threads gone, I was upset, but I figured we would just have to move on from there and start rebuilding all of the old 'good' threads. I never imagined it was the beginning of the end. I hope the site is able to be rebuilt, but I also realize it will never be exactly the same, and neither will any other site. I'm just glad I was there to see the site in it's hay-day. If GF is brought back, it will be different, but hopefully it can recapture the old spirit.

 

I'm sure you all know I like the more substance and less 'profanity, insulting, and racial slurs' that this site has promised. Maybe I can find time to pop in once in a while. It is also good to see some familiar members, and smilies;).

There will be a no tolerance stance against racial slurs and extreme profanity. It's pretty easy to get a point across without such things.

I want this site to what I always envisioned for GF. At one point GF almost made it. I'll tale the blame since time was precious for me. In 3 months I'll have all the time in the world and this site will be number 1 priority after family.

Well, things are a little clearer now. I thought it was just me that got banned. I didn't know it had happened to others.

 

I'd been given mod status over posts of my own only, as I was being plagued by 3-4 fags who had taken it upon themselves to derail and drown out posts of mine of which they disapproved. They had even taken to being shiek-yerbouti and shiek- yerbooti.

 

It was real fun altering their posts and deleting others. They go their harrasment back in full measure.

 

I'd promised to not ammend posts in threads not started by myself. A few days later I noticed that I had done that, I guess I was not paying due attention. Maybe I was just having too much fun. My collaborator did not complain or raise the issue with me, so I figured everything was OK. Besides, those fags were irritating everyone almost, with their anti USA comments.

 

Then suddenly I was told I was no longer welcome. Then, strangely, this was ammended to change your user id - or else. I never rejoined with another user id, as it is totally unreasonable to insist someone change their user id. Unless of course, there was good reason.

The whole idea behind GF was to piss people off it they weren't already.

The kind of things that happened at GF won't happen here. THis is going to be a place where intelligent people can interact with each other. Phreak and I have some great ideas.

What? Thats the only thing that set GF apart. What it needed was some moderation, but to make this site a 'work safe' happy chat spot is a sterile solution. When I say "moderation", I'm not speaking of the moderators, per say, but the overdose of people spouting off racial slurs and harsh profanity with no substantive content attached. Which was in the rules at GF. I believe the way it was described at GF is "If you want to call someone a stupid ing ******, go ahead. Just make sure your making a point while you do this". Many of the threads turned into a " you" contest, as opposed to a debate or a discussion. There could have been a happy medium if the proper effort was made.

 

 

There are endless thousands of chat sites and debate boards on the net. GF was the only one that I could say what I felt, the way I would in real life, and not check back later and see my post was edited and a warn or two was handed down.

If you think that is what made GF, GF, then let the new owner know. I might not be a part of GF, but I still believe the site should continue. We ARE NOT trying to compete in any way. We have our own plans, right now we are holding off for a bit, waiting on a few things before commencing with what this site will be. As much as I am glad to have you around Jhony, if what we create isn't for you, then we won't try and make you stay either way. Bob & Phreak don't = GF format. And I don't want to give the illusion that things will be similar except for maybe the same software (vBulletin). Like I said in the RULES AND FEATURES post on the top of every forum... This site is in BETA. We have plans, just gotta get it done.

I can appreciate your desire to separate this site from GF. I didn't know if this was supposed to be a reincarnate of the former site or not, and then I read through the rules and was a little taken back.

What really pisses me off , is getting to the end of a lengthy reply. I then click "submit". I am then taken to the front page, as for some reason I have to sign in again.

 

I cannot at that time go back to copy my lengthy reply.

 

This has happened a few times. Something needs to be done about this. It really is dispiriting, and its not good for others either, not getting the replies their posts were worthy of.
