Back to smoking.

And that's not all. I cut out and kept an article from a newspaper about this. A woman smoked 20 a day at home for years. Her seven year old kid became very ill. The doctors said he had the lungs of a pensioner.

 

Children's lungs are still developing way into late childhood they said. You really should not make kids passive smokers. It really is an unforgivable thing to do.The lady gave up smoking in her home when she found out how much harm she had done to her child. It was of course , too late for him.

While I agree that smokers shouldn't smoke around young children, your post left me wondering. In that article, where did that family live? Was it right next door to a coal-fired power generating station or factory? Did they live out in the middle of the countryside surrounded by clean air?

And now, back to guns....

Guns:

Man has been fighting wars for as long as recorded time, and gangs are simply fighting the only war they can to follow their instincts.

 

Think of man like a wild animal with survival instincts and desires. Society asks him to overcome his desires and instincts for the good of the group but there are those that cannot let go of those instincts, they cannot conform and will gather with others that have the same frame of thought as they do.

But, I can see certain factors adding to their need to fall back on their instincts instead of conforming to society, and the number one reason is the destruction of the family unit IMHO. We have kids growing up without parents, even the lucky rare ones that have both parents at home still have both working outside of that home and too tired at the end of the day to give their children the attention they need, but when we look at most gang members, they tend to be from single parent homes with little or no contact with their fathers.

 

With the divorce rates and the never married mother numbers growing so rapidly, I would not look to it getting any better any time soon.

There is no arguement that second hand smoke is bad for all that breath it, and adults should have the right to choose if they want to take that risk or not, children on the other hand do not have the ability to get away from the smoker though and I feel smoking around children is as wrong as it can get.

 

I used to smoke but never smoked in my home or in a car where my kids would be forced to breath my smoke, it was my addiction, not theirs.

I have to agree with you BM. Here, its five years jail time if they catch you with a gun. And of course, there is no legal way to really have a gun. Even if you could get a licence as a sports target shooter, the gun lives in a cabinet at the gun club. So you dont get to defend yourself against a gun totting crim at home if necessary.

 

The crims on the other hand carry them anyway, even some schools have found kids in school with guns.

 

Its ridiculous here.

 

An old man who had been broken into about 20 times, got a gun and shot the dick head responsible inside his own house. The old guy went to jail for 7 years. Elsewhere, someone who put up barbed wire to keep the jerks out of his property, was prosecuted because some arsehole hurt himself trying to break in.

 

Britons are leaving in droves for the USA, Australia, New Zealand, Spain. And who can blame them. I'm hoping to end my days in Thailand. This country is finished. Trashed by the liberals, and their dumb ideas, and the flotsam from the third world.

It was a city, she was a heavy smoker. No coal power stations I'm afraid. Just her and her habit caused the kids injuries. Sounds like the kid had emphysema

I agree with most of this. There was a time when a guy could earn enough to keep his family without any need for his partner to work. This meant the kids got plenty of prime time with the mother. Those days have gone. Now to get by, both parents work, and kids take care of themselves and each other without the parents, perhaps hardly seeing them. Its not the best way thats for sure

Actually, our District Council has employed 2 people to randomly go round the Pubs etc to check on Smoking. They visited my Local 3 days after the Ban came into force. We also had another District Council "Jobs-worth" checking the Garden to make sure there wern't (3-sided) shelter(s) built that hadn't got Planning Permission! Temporary 'structures' can only be used a maximum of 30 days in any calendar year.

And strangely, pub landlords (bar- tenders) are required to tackle anyone lighting up in a pub/bar. Its not really fair to insist on this in my opinion. The guy is there to sell beer and peanuts, not piss off strangers and perhaps even get assaulted.

I suspect that the 'motivation' for Landlords to tackle anyone lighting up in the Pub is the prospect of a ?2,000 fine which would be levied on them.

 

When the two 'smoking police' visited my local they told the barmaid (my Daughter) that if she had any trouble with smokers, just to call them. I think they thought of themselves as Batman & Robin chasing "The Smoker".

I was just watching a thing on TV about police quotas for DUI?S. They busted some people just because they didn?t pass the sobriety tests even though they blew a 0.000. Same thing I guess. Its good revenue plus they get the tax dollars. If they don?t use it they lose it kinda thing.
