Guest sheik-yerbouti Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 How about this moron. She smokes ten cannabis cigarettes, and drinks two bottles of wine- even though she has been left in charge of babysitting. Then, she lets the pet - a pitbull terrier, into the house knowing that it dislikes both resident toddlers. Then she goes to the bathroom for a while, leaving the dog all alone with a toddler. The little kid gets ripped to death by the brute. Result- she is not guilty of even manslaughter. http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/topstories/2007/09/11/pit-bull-death-gran-not-guilty-of-manslaughter-89520-19770307/ Quote
Jhony5 Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 My favorite line from that disgusting read; "Suffice to say, the greatest sentence passed in this case is a life sentence of regret this lady has passed on herself." Ummmmm...........? Ten joints and two bottles of wine won't exactly leave your mind sharp enough for reflection, would it? I mean to say, she obviously gets righteously ed up on a regular basis. So we're to believe that her punishment is to contemplate this with a numbed mind? She must've put on an act for the ages in court. Quote i am sofa king we todd did.
snafu Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 Ten joints and two bottles of wine? Holy ! She's got me beat. Who smokes ten joints in one sitting? Nope, I tried to join the old GF but never got the ability to join and know about the stands on issues by the members. I was commenting on the general myth that smoking pot has no harmful effects. Obviously it effects things like judgement and here we see another example of that fact. 1 Quote

ToriAllen Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 That is really sickening. Her punishment should have gone beyond that of her conscience. Some people have no conscience, so what is the punishment in that case? Another point: Pitbulls are hounds from hell. Honestly, is anyone surprised by the fact that it is a pitbull and not a er spanial or a labrador retriever? Why do people insist on having these dogs as pets? To me, personal responsibility goes with no regard to ones inebriation. So "some" people shouldn't get high so the reverse of that statement is some people "should" get high?????? Really? Altering your brain chemistry is never a good idea and that includes alcohol but I responded about pot because it is a popular myth among teens that pot is harmless, and it is not harmless. Even the teens can admit alcohol is harmful in some ways. Even if we subscribe to your idea that "some" people shouldn't get high, how do we determine who these people are? Is there a test of some sort we can administer? Is there a genetic marker we can look for? Can we find a way to seperate those that can and those that can't? I am new here so I don't know about how strict it is about going off topic. Is this okay or should the topic be split? 1 Quote

Its owner is is the dead childs uncle. He deals drugs from the home I've read, so he wants a tough dog to attack anyone who wants to mess with him. He might even be engaged in dog fighting. Quote

Jhony5 Posted September 15, 2007 Posted September 15, 2007 So "some" people shouldn't get high so the reverse of that statement is some people "should" get high?????? Yes, some people should get high. Just like some people should take Prozac or Valium. Altering your brain chemistry is never a good idea and that includes alcohol but I responded about pot because it is a popular myth among teens that pot is harmless, and it is not harmless. Then why are people prescribed anti-depressants? Many people have unbalanced or otherwise unstable brain chemistry. Too much of one chemical, not enough of another. We are all different and we all find balance in our own way. Altering your brain chemistry may actually be the best way to deal. .......but I responded about pot because it is a popular myth among teens that pot is harmless, and it is not harmless. Even the teens can admit alcohol is harmful in some ways. What foolish and inexperienced teens have to say about it, is inconsequential. They'll think its 100% harmless until they smoke a skunk blunt and crash their car into a tree because they were too high to drive. Even if we subscribe to your idea that "some" people shouldn't get high, how do we determine who these people are?It doesn't need to be determined. Why should we determine personal choice for people? Does everything we choose to put into our bodies have to have a Federal stamp of approval on it? Making sure that the proper agencies are profiting from it? Can we find a way to separate those that can and those that can't? I suppose. Take, for example, a drugged out bitch that ignored the 200 pound vicious dog running around unsupervised with small children in her house. The determining factor in whether or not someone should or shouldn't get high or drunk, is whether or not they can control themselves or their intake. Some people shouldn't get high because they cannot moderate their intoxication or control themselves while intoxicated, or perhaps they severely lack the intelligence and coping mechanisms to deal with even the simplest decisions while intoxicated. Its the same principle as to why some people can be faced drunk and manage to make the correct decision to not drive home, and others cannot. If you can't keep yourself from driving drunk, then you shouldn't drink. Quote i am sofa king we todd did.
Guest sheik-yerbouti Posted September 15, 2007 Posted September 15, 2007 The opinions of some doctors and other health care workers amuse me. They insist that there is a causal link between cannabis use, and some forms of mental illness- schizophrenia for example. They imply that the first causes the latter. Surely, these unfortunate people with mental health issues have other things in common also. It is very likely that they all drank alcohol too. So maybe there is a causal link between alcohol consumption and mental ill health, or perhaps watching TV and mental ill health. Self serving arguments are not what I would expect from the medical profession. Quote

Jhony5 Posted September 15, 2007 Posted September 15, 2007 Marijuana actually creates paranoia and an increased sense of awareness. If she wasn't so god-awful dumb and drunk off her ass, than she probably would have been able to realize a vicious animal and little children don't make for a good combo. wez Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 Although stupid, how can you convict a person of manslaughter for what a dog does? I really don't think it's the pots fault either unless it was laced with Angel dust..Perhaps the family should have chose a better "pet". It's tragic and I'm sure granny's not pleased..why does she need to be punished? Toss the dog in prison.. or the parents for having it if someone needs to pay to satisfy someones vengence. Quote

When children are in your care, you are responsible for their well being. If something bad happens to them, it doesn't necessarily mean you're at fault. However, if negligence can be shown, than thats a different story. She was grossly intoxicated, which is in and of itself negligent. Then she makes the abhorrent mistake of allowing a known vicious animal to roam freely around the children she is charged with caring for. I'm not sure if manslaughter was fitting, but she should have to answer for this. I'm sure she blamed it on the drugs and booze, gave her sad in story about her addiction, she gonna seek help...... Somehow shes a victim of her environment and blah blah blah ing cry me a river you idiot bitch. Quote i am sofa king we todd did.
