Ahhlee Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 In all my years of driving on bad roads, it's the first time that's ever happened to me. If the slough hadn't slowed me down, I would have hit the other side of the ditch and flipped over. Some friends drove out and towed me out. On the ride home there were others who had skidded off the road, too. Thankfully everyone was getting help and no one looked hurt. Quote
snafu Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 I flipped over in a ditch filled with water once. I woke up looking out the back window as water was filling in. I crawled to the drivers side and kicked out the window. Quote "You can't stop insane people from doing insane things by passing insane laws. That's just insane!" Penn & Teller NEVER FORGOTTEN
emkay64 Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 "As I was skidding backwards along the highway veering towards the ditch, I would like to say I said something dignified and Carrie Underwoodesque like 'Jesus, take the wheel', but alas that is not the case. Instead, in those seconds that felt like hours, my mind reflected on the people I love, lists/tasks left incomplete and hopes and dreams unrealized. As I felt the back end hit the ditch, I realized my last thought was going to be...'Huh. I'm going to go flipping through a field. Fukk.'" - Ali after sliding across the ice yesterday and winding up stuck backwards, in the opposing ditch, and in a slough. Holy Crap Lady! Glad you're okay! I did that...but rolled the truck...took out a telephone pole and totalled the truck. Then spent the ambulance ride rubbing green paint off my neck. Apparently the telephone pole ripped through the truck and dragged against the roll bar showering my neck with green paint. I like to think I didn't die because there is an other worldly plan for me that has yet to be decided. When I realized it was inevitable, I felt really calm...but too fast to do much thinking. Scarey though huh? Quote
Ahhlee Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 Well we are just an amazing bunch of survivors, y'all! Or bad drivers? Nahhh....I vote survivors. Quote

ImWithStupid Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 "The government consists of a gang of men exactly like you and me. They have, taking one with another, no special talent for the business of government; they have only a talent for getting and holding office. Their principal device to that end is to search out groups who pant and pine for something they can't get and to promise to give it to them. Nine times out of ten that promise is worth nothing. The tenth time is made good by looting A to satisfy B. In other words, government is a broker in pillage, and every election is sort of an advance auction sale of stolen goods." ~ H. L. Mencken Quote
ImWithStupid Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 "That erroneous assumption is to the effect that the aim of public education is to fill the young of the species with knowledge and awaken their intelligence, and so make them fit to discharge the duties of citizenship in an enlightened and independent manner. Nothing could be further from the truth. The aim of public education is not to spread enlightenment at all, it is simply to reduce as many individuals as possible to the same safe level, to breed and train a standardized citizenry, to put down dissent and originality. That is its aim in the United States, whatever the pretensions of politicians, pedagogues and other such mountebanks, and that is its aim everywhere else." ~ H. L. Mencken Quote

mercury Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 holy cow woman... I didn't see your ditch story until just now. Glad you came out of it okay! I've got a tons of sliding on ice/ending up in ditches stories. I drove a firebird for 5 years (not exactly a snowbird vehicle ). One time, I did a series of 360's down the middle of a 2 lane highway while the car in front of me and the one behind me did the same thing. It was kind of like a ballet in it's beauty... especially considering none of us plowed into each other or ended up wrapped around a light pole. I think I did say "Jesus, take the wheel!" for that one... I let go and just "enjoyed" the ride. Quote
