Anna Perenna Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 Interesting story in the paper yesterday.. Musharraf says U.S. troops would "certainly" be considered "invaders" if they were to enter Pakistan to fight Al Qaida. He says, "I challenge anybody coming into our mountains. They would regret that day". Musharraf says US troops are not welcome to join the fight against Al Qaida on Pakistani soil. This is our buddy? I think Osama is swimming at his palace right now... The headline read.. U.S. told to stay out of Pakistan Well, considering how vocal you are about what a sham the Iraq war is, wouldn't it be fair to assume that Musharraf agrees with your opinion, and therefore doesn't want the same kind of disaster on his own soil? I think it's important for the US to maintain amicable diplomatic relations with Pakistan at this point. Particularly because of their tenuous relationship with Israel. Declaring Musharraf an Al-Qaeda supporter without proof is not going to help the situation he's in. What do you think he should be doing to fight Al Qaeda? Personally, I have no advice for the guy, besides maintaining his own safety. Musharraf is between a rock and a hard place. The vast majority of Pakistanians do not want our army on their soil.. Even a dictator must give some credence to the wishes of his citizens. Good point. Quote _______________________________________________________ I don't know how to put this, but ... I just don't think Al Qaida is trying to kill him, or vice versa, as has been claimed.. Plus, I haven't seen any other news about anything we, the US, has done or said that would prompt those comments. Quote

I just don't think Al Qaida is trying to kill him, or vice versa, as has been claimed.. Fair enough. But we do know that someone/some group have tried to assassinate him in the past, and we do know that despite the danger it puts him in, he has openly spoken against Al Qaeda in the past. I'm not saying this absolves him - I agree that his actions since Bhutto's assassination have been questionable - I'm just saying I don't think it's wise to point the finger just yet. wez Posted January 14, 2008 Author Posted January 14, 2008 I'm with you there! Sometimes I wonder if Al Qaida even exists.. I mean really, what is it? Who are they? How can they be identified? Shadows in the dark it seems to me.. Quote

Shadows in the dark it seems to me.. The core of Al Qaida has been destroyed. It is more of a movement now with no real main leadership. It's more of individal grass roots groups. It's more of individal grass roots groups. This is why they put so much importance to things like the internet. It is a way to communicate with generic masses and stay seperate, more difficult to stop these groups if there is no hard connections. 1 Quote
