timesjoke Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 I am always amused by how we have double standards all over the place. If a man has sex outside marriage, that is okay, if a woman does it, she is a slut. If a woman kills an unborn baby, that is okay, if a man does it, that is murder. If a black uses the the "N" word, that is okay, but if a white does it, that is racism. If Muslims pray in public schools, that is okay, if a christian prays in a public school, that is bad. Can anyone else give some examples? 1 Quote
ImWithStupid Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 When a white sportscaster used a reference to "lynching" during a conversation about a black man she is labeled a racist and should be fired, but if the conversation were about a white person it would have gone unnoticed. Sharpton claims it had nothing to do with Tiger, it's about the word itself, but I truly believe if it was about a white golfer or whatever, it would never have been an issue. Quote
eddo Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Can anyone else give some examples? If a woman wants to wear a pink strapless evening gown out on the town, she is glamorous. If a man does it, he is a freak. Quote I'm trusted by more women.

timesjoke Posted January 11, 2008 Author Posted January 11, 2008 Look! I cried. Maybe I can win the next Primary Election! Wow, a great example of a double standard. A woman wishing to be President cried in public from the "stress" and she gets a boost with the voters, does anyone believe a man could have gotten away with this? Anyway, it was fake, Hillary is 100% created by advisors and speach writers, if she gets elected, I say kick her to the side and let the advisors and writers take over. 1 Quote

Jhony5 Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 A double standard? When police speed like mad f ck while driving their patrol car off duty. I hate this. My brother proclaims this to be a "perk". It either is, or is not, dangerous to exceed the speed limit. If they feel so righteous in handing out $120 tickets for speeding because of the inherent danger of driving fast, they should set the example by not doing it themselves. I'm sorry but, the 6 hour course they take on driving doesn't make them exempt from causing accidents. Nor does it make them any more skilled than the average man. Quote i am sofa king we todd did.

It's amazing the differences between regions and demographics. I honestly don't see this, but I was watching a program about a serial rapist in Miami, and noticed the cops, even when they weren't going to an emergency incident, were speeding and passing people on the other side of a double yellow line for no reason other then the had somewhere to be. No emergency. I never see that here. Quote

No emergency. I never see that here. "Here" where? I see this all the time. You have to be careful and not flip them off or yell at them, because you can never for sure tell if they are actually going to an emergency. With the exception of the numerous times I've had a cop blast by with his wife and/or kids in the car. At my brothers 4th of July party last year, him and his cop buddies were laughing and joking about this, calling it a perk of the business. I made my little joke too. "Did you guys know that 'pig' is a pseudonym for hypocrite"? Oddly, they didn't find that nearly as funny as one would think. Quote i am sofa king we todd did.
ImWithStupid Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 "Here" where? Nebraska. Neither rural or in a city. I guess the whole, "I don't trust cops" thing must be a perspective thing. I honestly don't see much of the, "profiling stuff", here. I am well aware that there are notoriously tainted police forces like the highly publicized incidences, like New York, L.A., and New Orleans, but I honestly believed that outside of these isolated incidences, most cops are lawful. I know that any department can have a few cops that can push the envelope or do questionable things, but I believe that 98% are good. It's too bad you have had dealings with some on the fringe. Quote

Agreed. Most police are very well meaning and good people. I would also say that most of them speed when off duty. Hence my posting this in the double standard thread. It's too bad you have had dealings with some on the fringe. I have had far more pleasant dealings with police, than I have had negative dealings. Its just, the negative stuff is far more interesting. timesjoke Posted January 11, 2008 Author Posted January 11, 2008 A conseravative writes dirty emails to 17 year old page in whitehouse with the desire to have a sexual encounter with same 17 year old, the world is comming to an end, the man is removed from office, and he will never hold public office again.(As it should be, I agree this is a good thing) A liberal asks a 17 year old page for sex, 17 year old agrees and what follows is a long sexual affair with the young boy to include vactions out of the Country together. The politician gets a standing ovation from his fellow liberals in congress and is given over 8 million dollars from his party to assist him to get elected again for 6 more terms in office "after" they knew he liked having sex with young boys. Jhony, I have to say your right about the cops speeding thing for most cops. Your also right about setting the exmple, cops being the front line of what is considered right and wrong according to our laws. I will even admit I would sometimes speed when I first started working the street but after a few years this same point was made to me by an old veteran cop friend of mine. It took a minute for what he said to sink in, but I worked much harder in setting the example after that. 1 Quote
Jhony5 Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 As far as double standards go, I believe this invokes the word "Epitome" Debra Lafave - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia After pleading guilty to having several sexual liaisons with a 14 year old boy, LaFave received a slap on the wrist. As well as an extension of pity due to her good looks. Making this a double, double standard. A quadrupal stadard, as it were. Is it fair to use multiplication while calculating the measurable levels of hypocracy? She gets off easy because she is a "she". As well as further sympathetic extensions due to her youthful beauty. On November 22, 2005, Debra plead guilty and was sentenced to three years of Community Control (house arrest) and seven years of probation, along with a string of other requirements The prosecution's plea deal involved prison time, which Debra and her parents found unacceptable. Debra's defense attorney caused a national stir that made headlines by remarking to the media that "to place Debbie into a Florida state women's penitentiary, to place an attractive young woman in that kind of hellhole, is like putting a piece of raw meat in with the lions." .
