ImWithStupid Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 I just hope the world has learned from the past, and the dangers of feeling the need to back allies at all cost. Serbia, Russia reject Albanian rule in Kosovo By Douglas Hamilton BELGRADE, Feb 25 (Reuters) - Serbia intends to rule parts of Kosovo where "loyal citizens" still look to Belgrade for government, Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica said on Monday. In a fresh challenge to the West, which backs Kosovo's independence, and in particular to the European Union, which is due to take over from the United Nations as Kosovo's supervisor, he said Serbia would do all in its power to exert its authority. "Serbia will do everything to implement its jurisdiction and state prerogatives for all loyal citizens in Kosovo -- Serbs and non-Albanians," Kostunica said. "There cannot be normalisation of relations with the states that recognised Kosovo independence until they annul their decision," he added. "Protest rallies will not stop as long as illegal independence is not annulled." Kostunica won renewed backing from ally Russia, whose likely next president, Dmitry Medvedev, made a high-profile visit to say Moscow would continue to back Serbian sovereignty, despite Western support for the independence of Kosovo. Medvedev, who also met Western-leaning president Boris Tadic, said there would be no shift in Russia's support for Serbia after the presidential election next week. I think if this leads to conflict again, the US needs to make the EU deal with it and not get involved at all. Quote
Guest sheik-yerbouti Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 And I just hope the UK and USA governments keep their noses out of this. It is none of their business. If they think Russia is a spent force ,they need to think again. Russia is committed to supporting their slavic brothers- the Serbs. Kosovo has been a part of Sebia for centuries. Why should they allow Albanian moslems to steal part of their country? They should return to Albania, or Turkey, which is where their ancestors came from. What we have here is a new front in moslem expansionism Quote
hugo Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 It is sad that Russia is the only major nation willing to battle the spread of Islam. What we have here is a new front in moslem expansionism The region fell under Muslim/Turkish rule about 500 years ago and many of the Christians converted to Islam to avoid paying higher taxes. It wasn't until the early 20th Century that Islamic Albanian rule was usurped, and usually with the intervention of an outside nation or nations. There is a current ethnicity of around 88% Albanian. Telling the Albanians to give the region back to the serbs, and go back to where their ancesters came from, hundreds of years ago, is like expecting everyone in the US to leave and turn it back over to the Native Americans. This is not what I have read, Albanians/Turks poured into the area because they could. It was vigorously opposed on several occasions, but for whatever reason, the Muslim expansion program became largely unopposed, leading to the high Muslim density of today. It is today still a Serbian possession, according to the Serbs who have never relinquished possession, and they are backed by Russia. The combined force is quite formidable. Are we in the West really going to fight Islam's expansion programme at the expense of the Serbian Christians ? I hope not. As someone implied before, this may be the start of a much wider conflict if we do. Quote
