WASHINGTON - Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson said Thursday that many proposals being put forward to deal with the housing slump would do more harm than good.

While he still believes that the housing problem remains the biggest downside risk to the economy, Paulson said the issue needed to be put in perspective. He said 93 percent of all mortgages are being paid on time and that less than 2 percent are in foreclosure.

Paulson rejects government bailouts - Yahoo! News

Ok, where the hell does it say anywhere in the US constitution, or anywhere legal for that matter, that people who make bad choices, have the right not to fail and don't have to learn from their mistakes.

Bailing out the mortgage lender issue, the credit card company issue, or whatever, because people or companies were stupid, is crazy.

How will people learn not to do stupid crap if they get bailed out at the expense of the intelligent, informed, tax payer. Just like Hurricane Katrina. I'm sorry but a 4-5 day warning that a catagory five hurricane is heading toward your, lower than sea level, neighborhood, and being too stupid to leave, isn't the fault of any government organization and definitely not the responsibility of the federal government, when your local government has recieved a lot of funding to improve things but chose instead to either use the money for pet projects, or somehow make it their own profit, and wasn't there to help the idiots who didn't leave, shouldn't be a burden on the intelligent taxpayer in Montana or Idaho, who uses their federal money wisely to plan for emergencies.

Enough with that rant. The US government needs to let more people fail when they do stupid crap, and not bail out every idiot that comes along.

This is the type of usual liberal promises that are made to the idiots and poor of the country. You can live anyway you want, piss away all of your money on stupid crap, not plan for the future, and those that do plan for the future, live within their means, and pay their taxes will end up supporting you. Why would the lazy, the stupid, or the idiots have reason to change when the liberals will just encourage this behavior.

I have to agree with IWS.

The liberals arew trying to create one huge daycare facility called America where everyone is taken care of and all it takes is 95% of your income every week.

That's worth it right?

Wrong!

If someone messes up, fine, mistakes happen but that mistake does not mean everyone else should pay for that one guy's mistake.

Intelligent people think...

how ignorance must be bliss....

idiots have it so easy, it's not fair...

to have to think...

WHAT IT WOULD BE LIKE TO BE AMONG THOSE FORTUNATE MASSES.....

Hey, "Non-believers" I've just got one thing to say to ya... If you're right, then what difference does it make, it wont matter when we're dead anyway... But if I'm right... Well, hey... Ya better be right...

Haven't we had a "conservative" President for 8 years? What's up with that? Seems things have gotten progressively worse for wear..

Conservative liberals encourage illegal immigration?

Conservative = liberal? ... I'm confused..

And look what happened with Katrina when Bush acted like a conservative.

It is usually up to the governor of the state to request FEMA help. Bush is still getting attacked by the liberals for not jumping up and throwing a federal agency in before it was requested. He did exactly what he should have done, but oh my God, the liberals freaked, that the idiots in the local and state government didn't plan, wasted all the funding given to them, and did nothing to prevent the catastrophy, but somehow it's Bush's fault that these people suffered. That dog don't hunt. Then the idiots went and voted the same crooked, inept mayor back and local government officials, that were truly responsible for the situation, back in office, because they had Bush to blame.

What a disaster that was.. who knows where all OUR money went on that deal..

Nothing concerning our government is ever a single persons fault.. The system itself is sick.. But, I'd rather have "Bush" throw our money at poor people in La. then at his buddies like the late Ken Lay of Enron..

Matter of fact, I'd go so far as to say every American over the age of 18 and has an IQ of 80 or better is equally responsible for everything we do and say as a nation.

My God I hope I'm not equally responsible. Like you said our Federal government is sick.

I might take some ownership if the people we elected to represent us in the US government actually did what was right for the nation. There are very few politicians, if any, that care what the nation wants or needs. All they do is spend their time in office, trying to get re-elected. This is both sides of the aisle. The problem is there are too many "one issue voters". Like someone who votes for or against someone based solely on their stand on gun control or abortion or whatever, to the exclusion of the rest of their views. These people may agree with everything else about someone but if they are for or against one thing, it decides who they vote for. It's just irresponsible.

Well, I know my forefather, literally, John Hanson, didn't go crying to anyone when England needed to be told to off.. Although, France did help out a bit. :D Matter of fact, if anything, I'd say those of us outside the government are more responsible. Couldn't happen if we didn't close our eyes swallow it.

Keep in mind at that time, they may have been seperated by an ocean, but they were all englishmen.

The price we pay for a plutocracy masquerading as a free democracy and savior of the world..

I was saying this was gonna happen 10 years ago to anyone who would listen.. I just drove by these new townhomes just up the street from me.. several have been empty for 4 years or so. They were $117,000 then.. I see a bunch of auction signs saying min. bid, $50,000.. Good luck finding someone with the cash, banks aint borrowing anyone money.
