ImWithStupid Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 This is truly a sad situation. Unfortunately, even if the mom had gotten an immediate order, that's all it would be, is a piece of paper. If someone is truly this determined, that protection order would be as much of a deterrant as a "Gun Free Zone" sign on the door would have been. It makes the average person think twice, but the wacko doesn't care. Quote
eddo Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 holy freaking cow.... Quote I'm trusted by more women.
timesjoke Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 This is why I always say only you can protect yourself, the cops can only pick up the pieces after your already a victim. If this woman had her own gun, she could have defended herself and her two children would still have a mother to take care of them. Very sad, as with most things, it is children who pay the biggest price for the mess created by adults. Quote
ImWithStupid Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 This reminds me of some safety issues I try to tell people. In a day of cell phones, you should always have a phone plugged into your land line. Even if you don't have service, if you dial 911, it works. same with a cell phone without service, as long as you have power. We had a situation once, where a call was made to 911 from a cell phone, the person on the line was only able to say, "He's in the house". The problem was that she lived in a town, about 45 miles away, but her cell phone was registered to her father, who live in our county and about 30 miles from her. So when the 911 call came in, we went to the dad's house. Unfortunately, her boyfriend, who she recently had obtained a domestic abuse protection order against, had broken into her apartment, 30 miles away in another city, in another county, and was assaulting her. By the time anyone pieced it all together, she was the victim of assault (I'm not sure, but I heard, sexual assault also), not just a victim of a breaking and entering. The bad thing is, she lived in a small town and was only blocks away from, both the police and sheriff's offices. Unfortunately she made the call on a cell phone, not a land line. Even as a LEO, I agree that when seconds count, the Police are only minutes away. Not to take anything away from LEO's but they can't be everywhere. Quote
ImWithStupid Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 I guess if there was a moral to my story, it would be, that even if you only subscribe to cell phone service, have a phone, even a cheap phone, plugged into all of your landlines, for 911 emergencies. Quote
