Forgive me for reposting from the Premium area, but I think this needs to be said...

This site is starting to degrade into something equivalent to high school drama and popularity contests. Have we really debated all of the topics worth debating? Now we are left to fight about who is screwing whose mom, and who said something we didn't like. I've had enough of this cry baby mud slinging. What happened to being able to debate and disagree with someone on one topic and completely agree with them on another? I think it is time to get back to the issues. Some banter and derailing is alright once in a while, but I feel like our entire site has been derailed. Enough of this petty shit.

 

Bottom line. This site has much more potential than what I have seen lately. This is a debate site, so arguments and hurt feelings are par for the course, but honestly, this is getting ridiculous. There have been very few serious discussions about anything lately, and the few there have been have turned into nothing more than juvenile name calling and threats. It is possible to disagree with someone and still respect them as a person and as a poster. We used to have that. We used to attract serious debaters who were willing to discuss open ended and controversial issues in a mature and constructive way. What kind of new posters are we attracting now? We complain about the idiots that have been coming one here and posting without thought, or without any expectation of actually debating a topic, but it

I have to agree with you Tori. There's just to much mud slinging and not enough debating going on. Every time I try to debate something it just goes to the wayside with little tantrum bullshit Tessi fit fights. Have we debated everything there is to debate? I miss the days of Jeep and the spleefman.

It's probobly not true, but I think some of us could see how that could be implied from our vicious debating.

Ham, in all seriousness (and I've told you this before) I am very glad to debate you for the following reasons.

1) You are one of the few (10% or so) of muslims who debate me on GF that are not stupid. You are actually a better debator than I am... The other 90% of the islamic posters are stupid and/or vicious.

2) Believe me, Ham... I am glad you are here, otherwise who could I debate with?

I'm not suggesting we completely give up all of the fun and drama. We should try to rein it in a bit. Childish name calling is a far cry from what I consider debating to be. There are threads that were created to be the fun threads where we can flame each other. Vocabulary Improvements is one of those. I would not expect anyone to carry on a serious debate in that thread. It is the fact that the flaming has leaked into the more serious threads to the point where every thread has now broken down into fighting rather than debating that disturbs me. Fighting with other sites is fun, as is singling out the newbie that has nothing to contribute, but fighting with our existing members makes it very difficult to debate them. Debates degrade into name calling because of previously hurt feeling. I am guilty of some name calling, but my debates with members stay in particular threads. They don

Having a forum where the insults are kept to a minimum to increase debate is an excellent idea, and will do wonders for bringing the level of debate back up to where it used to be.

ahh, but the difference is that my forum has much stricter rules that yours does, and sixes was a repeat offender in breaking those rules. I have never broken any rules here.

First of all... show me the post where I idiot boxed you for suggesting this.. and second, we have a little quawgmire here.. eddo, a moderator on a lower grade forum, who liked to ban people such as Jason Jones for basically talking shit and creating multiple accounts, has decided to YET AGAIN pop up on GF and give us all a hypocritical complaint about how people are treated and what topics are covered. I banned you eddo, do you not think that you should comply with the request of the people who moderate this board, and stay gone ?? Is there some kind of relevance you would like to display in your posts to convey to this board that you have not had the opportunity to do in the past ?? Can you find me ANY posts by you that contribute to GF ?? Any that don't involve critisizing how the place is ran ?? And, like Tori said in the hidden forums... so which is it... do you people want moderated, or do you want only others moderated and yourselves excluded ??

 

When people are moderated, the first thing that happens is somebody cries about it and complains that the mods are on a power trip.

Moderate everyone the same. As I have said, our site has rules, and Jason repeatedly broke them. and I am not the one that banned him for it. Sure I pushed for it and I agree with it, but I am not the one that made the final call.

 

If everyone is moderated to the same set of rules (like for instance the rules against using certain words in the Piss Pot forum) then how can anyone complain that mods are power tripping?

You know what the worst is, and is the most common, seems the people that dish the most, can take the least. They dish it out by the bucketful, then cry victim when a thimbleful comes flying back at em.. sad.

 

My stance is, anyone can say anything they want to me, just don't cry if I do the same... I want people to say whatever they want, if it hurts, or pisses me off, maybe I should consider why, and thank them instead of Phreaking out on them. Sound advice my friends.

I would have to agree with this.

 

The Debate Room should be where the central debates are I think and perhaps for every thread dubbed a debate we could put a D at the end of the topic name so we know when debating in there not to personally attack anyone... For example.

 

MRIH creates a debate in the debate room titled "The Iraq War", since this is in the debate room, and it was created for debate purposes the title could be, The Iraq War D . ( D for Debate...)

well, the two kinda go hand in hand don't they? In order to keep debates on track (and I am just talking about debates here, not the whole site- really this is all that is being asked here) then moderators would have to take a more active role in moderating, would they not?

Too much bitching going on about what posted what and how the worded themselves(R.O.for ex). There is no debating going on what so ever. I posted a few topics lately that all I recieved is some rude remarks. I mean, I don't see them asshole trying to think of something to post. They just sit by their computer and wait for someone to make a thread where they can momenteraly release their life trouble tensions. I don't see enough agreeing or disagreeing(and giving facts and opinions about the TOPIC), but I see more derailers that just come to rant about how great they are. The problem is SOME, and only some mods that lack in intelligent conversation skills (if only there where more people like Phreak or Torri to keep the GF rolling) and required people skills. Instead they say some shit that doesn't make sense or even pertain to the topic.

 

PS. I had predicted this would happen long ago.

Actually the idea is to let Premium members take more control over what they want to say, and nothing more. If they have issues amongst themselves, then they can fight it out amongst themselves, they paid to be here. If ANY Premium wants a serious debate with no derailing and no moderator intervention, they take it into the hidden forums for discussion. This leave the MODS to only need to be concerned with Legacy and Regular members, and it also helps us because Premiums can tell us via POLLS in the hidden forums , who is being a pain in their ass and who's not.

 

So now we THEN get the task of sorting through weak willed and weak minded individuals by giving them shit till they run off complaining.. What's nice is the ones who DO stay are usually pretty fucking smart people who don't take shit off of others.. the IDEAL GF member.

 

As much as you can bitch and complain about this method, it works very well.

 

I don't think I have seen one mod YET who has ever just picked on someone because they felt like it.

 

I could name MANY members who have went under the MOD radar simply because they do not try and draw attention to themselves, they post what they feel, and they stand by their position.. Berniec to name one, angie, snafu, ruse, thejenn88, cynthia, kryptonite man, whatever, smutt butt. And for the most part KVH who we let get away with pretty much what he wants, and even HUGO who, occasionally gets teased, still stands his ground and scores high rep marks, and for the most part, does not get bothered by MODS.

 

You need to ask yourself what all these individuals have in common..

 

THEY ONLY STATE THEIR OPINIONS AND NOTHING MORE..

 

They don't fucking create a scene and fucking bitch moan and cry if they get slammed by someone else.

 

A sure fire way to find yourself in the idiot box for probably longer then the original sentence.

I understand that premiums get to boss smaller ones arounds, but isn't this website that you can come here and tell what pisses you off, or tell the problems in the world that you think is wrong and state your opions about them. In other words, free speech. Voting on who everybody should rant at is way of goal of GF. I mean I understand that someone may 'piss you off' here, but don't change the topic, it kills everything this website stands for. The time to take it out on someone should be reserved for your topics where you can state your opinions and where others can come and state their opinions pertaining to the thread makers opinion.

"GF is fine the way it is" - Many improvements are yet need to come.

Btw phreak, why do you think that the membership numbers haven't increased much in since last year? Even after all these great add-ons were intergraded, the premiun membership sign up status have come into hault. Do you think that after all these premium member's accounts expire, will they want to re-purchase their status?
