While this sounds good it is a completely unrealistic goal because we need Americans to conserve, a thing nobody is willing to do so whatever axctions we want to consider, we must stay inside the realm of reality. Basic economics tells you that as a good becomes more expensive alternative substitutes will come into place and attempts to reduce the use of that good will be made. I'm looking for a vehicle right now. Fuel economy is a much greater priority than the last time I purchased a vehicle. If you factor in the cost of the Iraq War into oil prices you get a more realistic idea of what oil is really costing us in dollars, not to even mention blood.
