HAMMOND, Ind. (AP) -- If Hillary Rodham Clinton is feeling heat from pundits and party elders to quit the race and back Barack Obama, you'd never know it from her crowds, energy level and upbeat demeanor on the campaign trail....

I think it's time the US had a third party. Not an Independent Party, but a Centrist Party - not leaning left and not leaning right. It seems the Democrats have moved left and the Republicans have moved right. The far left has Moveon.org/Dailykos people and the far right has the religious fundamentalists/Neocons. A Centrist Party would take the moderates from both parties. The people of the US would then have a real choice in which way they want the country to go.

Sounds like a fantastic idea... The two parties will, like always, do everything in their "power" to make sure that doesn't happen though. It's up to us. We have free will and can do anything we put our minds too. I made an oath to myself years ago to never vote for a dem or republican again.. For pres anyways. And I'm sticking to it..

I've got to admit that I voted for Ross Perot. I had just stuck my absentee ballot in the mailbox the day he had a meltdown on TV.:o Wished I could get it back but it was too late.

I think the only way that a third party would ever happen would be if, a very popular viable candidate from one of the existing parties pledged to it or if a sitting, popular, President, switched to one, for their second term.

Or, possibly a popular ex-President who sees the major parties deteriorating? I don't mean to run, but to create the party. He could draw viable candidates to the new party. Creating a party like that couldn't be done overnight. It would probably take at least three election cycles.

Theodore Roosevelt tried that with the creation of the, "Progressive Party" also known as the "Bull Moose Party", when he saw the Republican Party going in a direction he didn't agree with, after his first full term and he didn't run the next term. He and his followers up and walked out of the Republican convention and went to another hall.

That's what I mean when I said it would take several election cycles. It's not a spur of the moment thing for most people to give up their party affiliation.
