Old Salt Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 While that's a very sad statistic, could the problem be that young, first-time parents just don't know how to take care of a baby? Or could those babies be born into single parent, (or even two-parent) drug abusing homes? There are a lot of possible causes. Quote

People seem so stressed out all the time these days. Money, drugs, booze, you name it.. and kids take the brunt, I'm afraid. Sucks. That is, when the parents actually have/make time to spend with them... Quote

I had to report a friend of mine a year ago for smoking crack and leaving her child with me all night once I confronted her and her husband(after I busted them in the bathroom with their matching crack pipes). She is 45, she has 2 sons from a prev marriage, and she abandoned them too for drug use. She went thru maybe 13 drug rehabs, I thought she finally got it right, but after knowing her again for a year I saw the signs, she didn't feed her daughter right, didn't take her to the doctors if she got hurt. She is the most selfish person I ever met; so was my first roommate who was a mother of two. Same thing, she would leave for days (after claiming she was going out for cigs) never fed her children, and would leave the baby in her crib all day if I wasn't around. I once had to pretend to be her to take her dghtr to the ER because she had pneumonia because she wouldn't, I had to fight with her to give me her welfare insurance card, and take the baby myself. I worked too, so her brother would help out with the kids. Her own brother reported her to child protective services and nothing was ever done. I finally moved out, I just couldn't bare to watch it anymore (that was 22 years ago, and I still wonder what happened to those poor kids). Both cases I saw - the mothers were selfish narcississtic drug addicted low life loser (LAZY) bitches. There needs to be free birth control and tubals for all these types of women. They went so far as counting the post-natal drug tests on baby and mother. They didn't count newbie parents who may be just making honest mistakes. Quote
