ImWithStupid Posted April 25, 2008 Posted April 25, 2008 I can forsee some possible backlash from this one... 3 NYPD Detectives Acquitted in 50-Shot Killing Friday, April 25, 2008 10:00 AM NEW YORK -- Three detectives were acquitted of all charges Friday in the 50-shot killing of an unarmed groom-to-be on his wedding day, a case that put the NYPD at the center of another dispute involving allegations of excessive firepower. Justice Arthur Cooperman delivered the verdict in a Queens courtroom packed with spectators, including victim Sean Bell's fiancee and parents, as at least 200 people gathered outside the building. As word of the verdict spread, many outside the courthouse began crying and yelled "No!" Some briefly jostled with police officers. atlantic Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 Was this guy shooting at the officers? It doesn't say why they shot him. What happened. That many bulletts fired is clearly overkill. Quote Do the right thing!

Self-defense is different. Were most of the bullets near or in the tires at all? Quote Do the right thing!

You're joking, right? When someone is trying to kill you with a deadly weapon (a car) you don't shoot the tires. You shoot the person. Shooting the tires is as flawed an idea as trying to shoot the gun out of the hand of the person trying to shoot you. Quote

I agree completely. shooting the tires would not stop the forward progression of the car, it wouldn't even really slow it down. All it would do is cause the car to drive on, and thus damage, the rims. I doubt the driver would have been that concerned about the shape of the rims if they were doing something that they felt warranted running down the police officers. I think the tire shooting thing is a result of too many cop movies/television shows. Quote

Guest sheik-yerbouti Posted April 27, 2008 Posted April 27, 2008 Before the attempt to kill with the car, the black guys were reported to have openly suggesed that they were armed - a routine ploy used by dickheads to intimidate. The officers were on high alert long before the car ramming incident. This is not a racist incident as some people like to imagine. Its a criminal incident, where, for whatever reason, the crims will not submit to arrest and will do whatever they think necessary, to escape arrest- in this case, attempted murder with a vehicle. Its the only result possible, brought on with their own stupid behaviour. I'm amazed that anyone could be talked into becomming a police officer. Thanks guys. I'm glad you are out there. Quote
