wez Posted May 30, 2008 Posted May 30, 2008 Pretty cool.. I'm sure those arrows will bring down that chopper.. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24880941/ With all the deforestation in S. America I wonder how long they'll last? Strange, how have they survived without money, oil, TV, and governments telling them what to think, say, and do? Quote
ImWithStupid Posted May 30, 2008 Posted May 30, 2008 It's amazing in the modern world that there are still areas that people are that have never been known of before. If it's possible that tribes of people with huts and communities are unknown, can we really discount legends of things like big foot, and other supposed mythical creatures? Quote

True... but you'd at least think a carcass or some compelling evidence of one of those creatures would have turned up at some point.. I bet that chopper scared the living crap out of them. I hope they're allowed to continue their way of life indefinitely.. Theirs is sustainable, ours is not.. Quote
phreakwars Posted May 30, 2008 Posted May 30, 2008 Send Spain in to teach them Spanish, convert them to Christianity, then send them North across the Mexican border, put them in trailers and make them work in meat packing plants, and THEN they will be civilized. . . snafu Posted May 31, 2008 Posted May 31, 2008 That is pretty cool. I'm sure they've had some kind of contact with the outside world outside of these helicopters buzzing around. But I'm sure there will be more intervention with them to make sure they are healthy and can continue to survive in this day and age. All in all though I hope they leave them alone too. Guest Cricket Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 From what the story says, there are 100 "uncontacted" tribes in the world - that they know of. The story is fascinating. Quote
ImWithStupid Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 From what the story says, there are 100 "uncontacted" tribes in the world - that they know of. If they are truely "uncontacted", how do they know about them, or is it just an estimate? Quote
Guest Cricket Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 Maybe in the same way they found out about this tribe? An unintentional fly-over? Not sure, but I sure wouldn't want to be the one trying to make contact. Quote

Guest schoolmom Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 If they are truely "uncontacted", how do they know about them, or is it just an estimate? I was wondering the same thing when I heard about this story. However, I came to the same conclusion that they had been seen, but not contacted, in the same manner as this tribe. I too hope they are left alone. I believe it was Wez who said that their way of life is sustainable and ours is not. This is very true. When the rest of us die off due to our own "civilized" lifestyle, they will probably still be going strong. Quote
wez Posted June 2, 2008 Author Posted June 2, 2008 If they are truely "uncontacted", how do they know about them, or is it just an estimate? I saw another story in a paper that said they've actually known about this particular tribe for about 20 years and just now made it known to raise awareness.. But like Cricket said, there's estimated to be about 100 they don't know about... Let's just hope that 'civilisation' leaves them alone. No !! Send Spain in to teach them Spanish, convert them to Christianity, then send them North across the Mexican border, put them in trailers and make them work in meat packing plants, and THEN they will be civilized. . . Hahahahaha.. Quite civilized Indeed.. Quote
wez Posted June 2, 2008 Author Posted June 2, 2008 But I'm sure there will be more intervention with them to make sure they are healthy and can continue to survive in this day and age. History says otherwise.. I saw a documentary a while back where a guy, a journalist I think, lived with a tribe for quite some time, learned their language and everything and the tribe granted him authority to speak for them with the "civilized" world.. At one point, an oil company had some interest in the territory which caused some friction and at a later point showed up with armed mercs and were surprised to see cameras there and a guy who could communicate with them.. Wonder what they had planned? Wonder how many tribes have been wiped out through means other than dislocation that no one ever knew, or will know about? I wish I could remember the name.. I'm sure it's on You tube or somewhere.. Quote
