CHICAGO (AP) -- Federal officials hunted for the source of a 17-state salmonella outbreak linked to three types of raw tomatoes, while the list of supermarkets and restaurants yanking those varieties from shelves and menus grew....

Fortunately, I grow my own tomatoes. Have been right steadily for about four years now. I love them. I pick them when there is just a little green left in the color. I put them on my windowsill to ripen.

 

The last ten years, or so, I've seen a steady decline with the quality of tomatoes sold in grocery stores and served in restaurants. At an establishment, I always ask to "hold the 'maters" (I'm country, ya'll).
