Version 3 of the popular Firefox web browser is going on general release on 17 June.

Wide take-up of the new version would further boost the market share of the browser which is currently used by about 15% of net users.

With the release, Firefox developer Mozilla is attempting to set a record for the most downloads over 24 hours.

Firefox 3.0 Record Download Attempt Crashes Mozilla Servers

...so many people tried to access the site that the servers appeared to crash. Attempts to reach the site for the latest version of Firefox were unsuccessful at least 20 minutes after the 1 p.m. Eastern time zone launch.
In a brief Twitter, Gina Trapani, editor of Lifehacker.com noted how badly the download was progressing. "Uh-oh, getfirefox.com taking forever to load already... this is like a scheduled, 24-hour DOS attack," she said. Similar posts were being filed throughout the blogosphere.

Have it installed on my machine, seems much faster, but I have a complaint, the addons I had installed in the old version are not compatible.

The pages still load faster in IE. 6 to 10 seconds for Firefox and only 3 seconds for IE. Firefox has always been slower.

I have been playing around with the new features and plugins, I think you would really enjoy the foxytunes plugin snafu, I'm finding it pretty damn cool at the moment.

Like for instance, the insert track option that comes up as I'm typing.

Check out where the URL goes to when I clicked the "INSERT TRACK option, pretty cool I'd say.

I've always found it to be the exact opposite. Firefox has always loaded pages faster for me.

I don't have 3.0 though.

Have you actually tested it? I was testing it when I posted that and that was my results.

Not 3.0 I haven't. But when I first started using Firefox a couple years back I ran some side by side tests to see which would load faster, and Firefox kicked IE's scrawny white ass. lol

IE seems to wait til the entire page is loaded to show any of it to you, while Firefox shows you enough to look around and then loads the rest of the page- if that makes any sense.

IE 6? Please kill me. FF3 is good, when the developers renew the extensions, it will be awesome. My god, come to the 21st Century Snaffie, please. For me?

At least try Opera. 9.5 just came out of a beta and it is good as well. I love Opera mini on my phone, and I synched my bookmarks and such.
