Guest sheik-yerbouti Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 Remember when the Stanley Kubrick film - A clockwork Orange came out ? It wasn't long before there were a few Clockwork Orange type murders. People are very open it seems to suggestion and copy cat behaviour. But what I read today just amazed me. In Gloucester Ma, USA seventeen school girls have become pregnant. This was no accident, it was all planned, they wanted to get pregnant. Who the father was, does not seem to be important. One of the fathers, is a homeless guy. Apparently, its because of a new film called Juno, where the leading young lady gets pregnant, and does not go the abortion route: Shock as schoolgirl pact leads to 17 pregnancies - Americas, World - The Independent No film I ever saw made me want to do anything dumb. How about you ? Quote
emkay64 Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 Are these girls from Arkansas? Just wondering? ...and no I've never been inspired to do something that stupid. Oh wait...Madonna inspired me to wear a bunch of stupid rubber bracelets and wear weird ripped slutty clothes, but that was it...still pretty stupid thpugh. Quote
Old Salt Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 These children (and that's what they are) don't understand what they're getting themselves into (IMO). Could this also be caused by the rash of celebrities with "baby bumps"? That's a ridiculous way of saying she got knocked-up. Say a combination of the two? Quote
phreakwars Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 That was a messed up story.. I don't see the correlation to the movie "JUNO". I have seen Juno (excellent movie I might add), the idea of having a pact to get pregnant because of it doesn't make any sense at all. What a piss poor writer that reporter is. . . That's kind of what I was thinking. I too saw Juno, and also think it's a terrific film. In the film she doesn't get pregnant on purpose, isn't a girl with a low self esteem, and has no plans of keeping and raising the child. She is very confident and aware that the child would be better off raised by someone else. No correlation at all in my view. Quote
snafu Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 The problem is you guys are trying to analyze the minds of female adolescents. Quote "You can't stop insane people from doing insane things by passing insane laws. That's just insane!" Penn & Teller NEVER FORGOTTEN

emkay64 Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 Good point. Or females of any age for that matter. 'Tis true. You guys are definitely incapable of unravelling the enigma that is the female psyche For the record, dumb parents, make dumb kids. Raise them with self-esteem, keep them busy, and teach them that movies are just movies, and you won't have a group of girls with a combined IQ of 17. Quote

phreakwars Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 Wait a minute here, so are you guys trying to say teenagers in today's society REALLY ARE that stupid ? That the obsession to emulate a character is so great, that young girls would actually get pregnant to be like one? No way !! . . Quote https://www.facebook.com/phreakwars

RoyalOrleans Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 It certainly doesn't help that the media portrays actresses sporting "baby-bumps" as trendy. It's sick, actually. I think they may be.. wouldn't be the first time a movie sparked a rash of stupidity.. I remember right after the Lost Boys came out and a city 30 miles from me had a "Vampire killing" or so the paper said.. Some morons killed a homeless guy and apparently drank his blood. Whatever the reason, pretty f'd up.. Like RO said too, baby bumps are hip in the media right now.. Quote
phreakwars Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 Mayor: No support for claims of pregnancy pact - Yahoo! News Mayor Carolyn Kirk plans to meet Monday with school, health and other local officials after Gloucester High School Principal Joseph Sullivan was quoted by Time magazine saying the girls made such a pact. The meeting will discuss the alarming rate of teen pregnancy. Seventeen girls in the high school became pregnant this year ? four times the usual number. The girls are all 16 or younger, and nearly all of them sophomores. Kirk told The Associated Press that Sullivan has told officials in this hard-luck New England fishing town that he can't remember his source of information. "The high school principal is the one who initially said it, and no one else has said it," Kirk said. "None of the counselors at the school, none of the teachers who know these children and none of the families have spoken about it. . . Quote https://www.facebook.com/phreakwars
wez Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 Saw some girls from the school being interviewed and one girl said she knew of 2 girls who "wanted to be pregnant together".. Quote
ImWithStupid Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 Saw some girls from the school being interviewed and one girl said she knew of 2 girls who "wanted to be pregnant together".. That really doesn't mean anything. I remember when I was in jr. high, there were fellow students who said that they "knew, for a fact" that me and some of my friends were devil worshipers, and we got questioned about our, "cult" by the principal at school. Appearantly if you listen to death metal, you must be in a Satanic cult. Strange thing was one of my friends who was in this "cult" went to church every week and another not only went every week but was an Acolyte at his church. Quote
emkay64 Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 I knew guys who were in "church group" to get laid. All the little christians getttin' it on in the Church basement. How blasphemous is that? Quote
