Big Brother in Britain ala 1984

I saw on TV today that there are over 4 million cameras watching people around the U.K. now.. They are also testing some in select areas where there's a speaker and they actually reprimand people with it..

 

"You in the red coat, pick up that litter".. etc..

 

Not widely talked about, but you can bet it's happening here in the U.S. too.. Cameras for sure..

 

Seems a lot of people over there aren't too happy about it. How do you guys feel about this? Specially our British friends on the site.. Fecky and Shiek.. You guys even notice them, or bothered by it at all?

 

My problem with the whole thing is, who watches the watchers and who watches the watcher watchers and who watches..

Not sure about the talking ones. I have not seen those yet. We do have lots of CCTV. They are beside the road with speed sensors, and if you are speeding they photo the car, then fine the owner. Many motorists dont like it, but the fact is, speedsters kill people. I'm all for it.

 

You will also see them at road junction where altercations usually take place. The police use the fotage for prosecuting violent offenders. Again , I'm all for it.

 

You also see them in city and town centres, where bars and other late night hangout are. Again, its to alert the police to fighting etc, and also evidence gathering.

 

It does make people feel safer

Its usually the other way round ! My uncle told me that what happens in the states will begin to happen in the UK. The time lag is usually about 10 years. It seems to be true.

 

About ten years after reading about "steaming"in the US, it started happening here.

 

We now also have what you call gang bangers.

 

We also have kids stabbing innocent people. And of course wandering about with coloured kerchiefs on display. They tend to mimic negro USA gangs.
