RoyalOrleans Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 So ... how did you like the total on that gas pump after you finished. If you're even the slightest bit irritated I have a something for you to watch. The first is a YouTube video titled "Three Ways to Lower Gas Prices." Over the weekend this video went viral. Give it a look. phreakwars Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 Newt is an idiot if he thinks drilling in ANWAR TODAY will do anything for pump prices. It would take AT LEAST 10 years to get any fuel from it. The Republicans have been spouting this scheme for a few months now, getting people to side with them on it. It's only a "feel good" solution to try and shut people up. While I really don't care if they did drill ANWAR, fukk the wildlife, but it's still BS that Newt and others are trying to convince anybody that drilling now will make a difference. However, there is some merit to what he was saying. There are TONS of places where there is accessible oil that could be extracted today and out to market a couple days later, right here in America. . . Quote https://www.facebook.com/phreakwars
ImWithStupid Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 If we were to pass resoulutions that would get us drilling in ANWR, on the continental shelf, mine shale oil, support coal to fuel and other alternative fuel sources and renewables, and OPEC actually believed we were serious, prices would drop. That's what happened in the early 80's. Congress started to support this type of stuff, OPEC dropped prices down to where it was cheaper to buy the oil again, and the projects were abandoned. Will they drop to 2 or even 3 dolllars a gallon? I doubt it, but they would probably stop rising and maybe drop some. Quote

IF our leaders had done their jobs 10 or 15 years ago, there wouldn't be the problem we have now. If we wait, we'll never solve the problem. We need to produce more oil and, at the same time, push for alternative energy. Quote

Prices aren't what they are now because there is a shortage, they are high because OPEC knows it has us by the nuts. Healthy competition always lowers prices. Quote I'm trusted by more women.
snafu Posted July 1, 2008 Posted July 1, 2008 That was totally to good! He was right on the money. Open 1/3 of the reserves and OPEC will drop the prices in order to sell their oil. Second open up exploration and drilling in these prime areas. Third support new alternative fuel technology. How can anybody disagree with that? That makes perfect sense! jokersarewild Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 Well, since we're apparently missing the tolken redneck on this thread... I think we should blow up that thar Middle East and steal the oil from their sand huts. Quote RoyalOrleans is my real dad!
Old Salt Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 One person is proposing something about how to reduce our dependence on foreign oil: PickensPlan: The Plan May agree with it, may not. But it's a good start for some serious discussion instead of all that election rhetoric. Quote
Old Salt Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 And Nancy Pelosi wants President Bush to sell off the Strategic Oil Reserves. Newsmax.com - Pelosi Asks Bush to Sell Off Oil Reserves WASHINGTON ? House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called on President Bush to release oil from the government's emergency reserve to knock down gasoline prices she says "are helping push the economy toward recession."... Bush repeatedly has rejected calls to use oil from the government reserve, which is 97 percent full and currently holds about 702 million barrels of oil ? enough to replace imports for two months. It's stored in salt caverns along the Louisiana and Texas coast. Quote

Old Salt Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 One thing about it. For those who want to run the government like a business: sell the oil at current prices, cause the price of oil to drop, and re-stock at a lower price. Quote

For those who want to run the government like a business: sell the oil at current prices, cause the price of oil to drop, and re-stock at a lower price. I think they would be grossly over-estimating our ability to manipulate oil prices.. Plus, we'd be selling it high to ourselves.. And prolly buying it higher from arabs who know we have none and would have no problem cutting back production for two months to maintain their black gold standard.. Quote
ImWithStupid Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Like I said... I'm sorry, I thought these were "strategic" oil reserves, used in a time of crisis or national security when we need oil to defend the nation because some crazy oil producing nation is working on nuclear weapons and is launching missiles that could carry these nuclear weapons, may decide to quit selling oil to us, not a way to try to look like the "do nothing", "don't use our own resources" congress decides to try to look like they care about the average person's gas expenditure, even though these congressmen probably haven't bought gas on their own dime in years. Quote
snafu Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Yeah the oil reserves are for crisis. I would think that this is a crisis that would warrant the use of at least 1/3 of the reserves. Now I?m not on the think tank gang so they should know more than me. With the looming trouble with Iran they might be doing the right thing by not using it. When Obama gets elected he'll create peace in the world by talking our enemies to death and we won't need a military. What kills me, how some of the blacks I know and some blacks I don't know blindly support this man. If appeasing our enemies is what he wants to do, this action will singlehandedly bring us down to the level of Spain and France. Ol Garland down at the shop is the ONLY black man that I know who refers to Obama as a "snake in the grass". And then he goes on to say, "When you're black... you don't want to be the FIRST ANYTHING. Muddafukkas who do... GET SHOT!" Quote To be the Man, you've got to beat the Man. - Ric Flair Everybody knows I'm known for dropping science.

There is nothing WEAK about our fighting men and women, wez. I have the scars to prove that I ain't weak, but a lot of them ain't so lucky to walk away. Some are limbless, some are riddled with shrapnel in their tails, and a lot more are paralized. Then there are those who got to go home... in a bodybag. So don't you go around calling the military weak! The security of your little chair, behind your little desk, behind your little computer screen was given to you at the cost of blood and sacrifice. So don't you go around calling them weak! You are the weak. They are dying for you, fool, for all of us. When I go to meet my fathers and brothers and sisters in the hereafter, I will not be ashamed. Old Salt Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 Another way to save money on gas: Buy a big ol' Dodge pick-em-up truck or SUV. Dodge will subsidize your gas for three years on select models, guaranteeing a $2.99 gas price. That's one way they can keep selling gas guzzlers. Quote

My sister just bought a brand-spanking new Commander and she got the $2.99 a gallon deal. They have GOT to move these vehicles, I mean they are practically giving them away. Her monthly premiums are under $400, but then again she also has a FICA score of like... a million! They only give you 12,000 miles a year, on a truck that maybe gets 19 MPG. That will use just over 631 gallons a year, so even if gas goes to $5.00 a gallon (up from $4.00 now) that is only a savings of $631 a year. Not exactly much incentive to go buy a new truck/suv if you sit down and think about it. Quote I'm trusted by more women.
