Chi Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 We're planning a little vacation in early August to Wisconsin. I know WI is known for it's water parks, but I'm not really into them and the kids agreed to be fine with that as long as the hotels that we stay in have a pool. Anyone have any recommendations of fun things to do in WI, besides the water parks (and stuff we can always do in our city/state like zoos, aquariums, etc.)? We have 5 days to work with. I've wanted to check out a pow wow for some time now, so we'll probably do that. Any yays or nays about pow wows going on during the weekend of August 8th in the area? Also, here are possibilities of places we are considering checking out while there: House on the Rock - The Resort l The Attraction l The Inn http://www.alcaponehideout.com/</a> Al Johnsons Swedish Restaurant Butik - Sister Bay, WI in Door County 800-241-9914 Little Americka - Wisconsin Amusement Park - 20 Smiles Away from Madison (I'm not too sure about this one because it looks a bit cheesy, but maybe I'm wrong. Anyone ever been?) Anyone ever been to any of the above places? What says you? Any other good recommendations? Quote
wez Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 The house on the rock is amazing... Nothing like it in the world. Been over 20 years since I was there but I know they at least used to add something new every year. So different and unique. Definetely worth the visit. Could spend a week looking around there.. So much to see. I think one of the lakes in the dells drained this year.. I'd check close if you go anywhere near there.. All those floods earlier.. Quote
phreakwars Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 Wow, what a tough question, I would have recommended the Wisconsin Dells myself, I was there probably 11 years ago. If all else fails, you can always visit some of these smaller towns and point and stare at the Amish. P.S. Don't forget to pick up some cheese fudge... yum !! . . It's probably totally different now. They have pictures of what it looks like now and the different tours, you should check it out. The house is kinda cool, I'm just not crazy about the accomodations there. From the pictures it looks like it wouldn't hurt them to remodel... Those places must've been awesome, in the 60's... Quote
DaMan Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 Make sure to hit the Brat Stop. Best brats in the states. I used to live in Lodi a small town north of Madison. If you like to fish, camp or hike then that is the area for you. Do hit the Dells. That alone would take a couple days. Quote

Funny that you mention that, I was thinking of visiting an Amish town, too:p Showing the kids that you can live and survive without television, video games, etc. Cheese fudge doesn't sound too appealing though:) Quote

My boyfriend would love that, he loves bratwurst. I've never fished or camped before, but would like to try it sometime (at least the fishing.) It probably won't happen on this trip though, I think we're going to do a lot of driving and moving around on this trip. My bf also wants to stop by and visit his dad in MN.... Quote
