Evil monk Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 This pisses me off! my wife has been looking for a new job, but the problem is she is'nt bilingual. Why does this seem to be a mandated qualification in the workfield? She is qualified and speaks perfect English, is that not good enough? Quote
tiredofwhiners Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 Is she trying to get a job in a spanish store? Otherwise English should be ok. Can she do const. i'd love to have someone who speaks English, working for me. And this is in the Poll area but no poll? Mods figure out a poll for this would ya? phreakwars Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 It's a proven fact, the hispanic population is helping fill alot of RURAL gaps too. My 1 home... sold to a hispanic... my rental... hispanic family... being bi-lingual is an almost HAVE TO anymore. It's nothing personal.. it's just business. . . Chi Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 Yes, I'm sure every job out there requires being bilingual:rolleyes: Excuses, excuses.... Let's blame the immigrants for this one... Quote
snafu Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 You know we have at least 7 different main Alaskan Native dialects. I think they were in the hundreds at one time. They are now in jeopardy of loosing them. Some have been cataloged. But the rest are gone forever. Was it for me the foreigner of this land to learn them? I don’t know. It’s really sad when you think about it. But we are a united nation that's built on understanding one another. Not segreagtion. In that context why is Spanish the contender for the second language in America? Aren’t there like thousands of dialects? You live in America. What's wrong with learning the language? Evil monk Posted August 16, 2006 Author Posted August 16, 2006 For the record, i am hispanic. I am a proud American, born and raised. I don't speak spanish and i'm not raising my kids to speak spanish. I don't see anything wrong with learning another language. But, not to feel like i am the minority because i don't speak it. Quote

Chi Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 I think knowing more than one language is very good and helpful. I am fluent in two and know and understand a lot of quite a few others. I plan on becoming fluent in at least one or two more languages. Author- And what is so harmful that your children learn Spanish? Quite the opposite, it can come very in handy and be very beneficial, esp. with more and more people speaking it every day and in so many other countries. Not only that, but it is part of your and their heritage. Quote

I for sure would know mine if it were different than english. I wanted to learn another language but was to lazy. So I learned sign language (American sign language). BUT! This is America, the great smelting pot. One language for one nation! LEARN IT! Quote "You can't stop insane people from doing insane things by passing insane laws. That's just insane!" Hamza123 Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 It's nice to be billingual... Although in the United States, you can hold a solid debate with a POV against being billingual, you can't really in Canada... The French came to Canada before the English did however the english are now more prodominent. Kinda' evens itself out. Quote Taking it up the poopchute from Allah since 1990.

I hate wetbacks...lemme get my mean ass heifers after their asses then they be runnin back across the border as fast as they got here. I have NO sympathy for the idiots...if I were to move to France...I would fukin learn the language...HELLO Being Mexican-American myself, I take offense to part of this comment... and agree with the later part. 1) There are many mexican immigrants who actually DO learn to speak English! and have made a very successful attempt at assimilating into American life. I have no problem with these guys. 2) Many mexicans come here to escape poverty, corruption, and the political climate and culture that perpetuates midocrity, only to arrive and begin converting the US to the same shit-hole they left... These immigrants who can't assimilate need to be sent back to wherever they came from, be it Mexico, England or Viet-fucking-nam! Quote The first amendment provides our constitution with its voice.
