lilmizztemper Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 Being Mexican-American myself, I take offense to part of this comment... and agree with the later part. 1) There are many mexican immigrants who actually DO learn to speak English! 2) Many mexicans come here to escape poverty, corruption, and the political climate and culture that perpetuates midocrity, only to arrive and begin converting the US to the same shit-hole they left... These immigrants who can't assimilate need to be sent back to wherever they came from, be it Mexico, England or Viet-fucking-nam! sorry man...I should have been more polite in what I said...Im just in a really shitty mood today and had to go to the feeders today and had about 14 heifers (mean ones at that) escape because I could NOT communicate with the droolin fuckers who unloaded my trailer....they all spoke spanish and I dont...it just pisses me off that I need to accommodate for their ignorance...especially when they gettin paid better than I am Quote Things just haven't been the same since that house fell on my sister

Chi Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 What? Is that supposed to make sense? It's good to be bilingual because Spanish speaking people are becoming more prominent? If everybody spoke one language you wouldn Quote

I'm curious. Quote
Chi Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 Would you like some cake and fucking ice cream too??? who the fuck gives a damn...this is United States of America...speak ENGLISH...if you go to Mexico or Spain...speak SPANISH...if you go to France...speak FRENCH...I bet ya cant speak redneck!!!!!!! Yes, it would make sense to learn/know the most common used language in the country you plan on going to, work, live, whatever for your own benefit. But you have to remember that most of the Mexicans who immigrate here are poor and often ignorant, a lot of them aren't even well educated in their own language, let alone English! Whoever is smart enough will make the necessary changes and adjustments to facilitate their life, regardless of who they are or where they come from. Quote
Chi Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 FUCK THAT!!!!!!! they can simply learn to speak OUR fucking language...nuff said... Did I EVER say that wasn't a good idea (them learning English)? No one is forcing you to learn another language, like I said, it is up to the individual. Quote

ToriAllen Posted September 11, 2006 Posted September 11, 2006 I've noticed the difficulty in finding a job is related to the area in which you live and the type of job you are trying to get. If you live in Miami, and work with the public, you better be bilingual. If your job does not involve working with the public, who cares what language you speak. I have a problem with the mentality of this country when it comes to learning another language. My friend from Russia knows five languages. My friend from Nigeria knows three and is working on her fourth. I feel like an idiot by only knowing one, and I can't understand the people in this country that are not appalled and ashamed by our educational system. They should start teaching Spanish, and/or French, in the first grade because by the time a child reaches high school it is too late to pick up on a lot of the subtleties of the language pronunciation. Children learn easier when they are young. We need a change; in mentality and in education. We are so spoiled in this country. Everyone is supposed to learn English, whether they are in this country or overseas. And when vacationing overseas, it probably isn’t difficult to find someone that speaks English. Why? Because, they actually learn another fucking language other than their native tongue. It goes beyond those that are coming to live in our country. We are living in the time of the Global market and we will lose our foot hold if we do not take steps to keep up. I COMPLETELY agree. Most other countries ARE taught English as a requirement. But like I said, the majority of Mexicans that come over here and don't know English is because they are poor and have very limited education even in their own language. Quote

There isn't a high population of Hispanics in the town I'm in so I don't know if the same classes are offered. But many states can apply for a grant that will pay for free classes to be offered. The opportunity is out there, it's just passed up often. Quote The dick has no conscience and the heart has no rational abilities.

I'm pretty sure they were free, but don't know about childcare. It's a shame it doesn't get used more often. Sad thing is, though, there are Hispanics there that have been only a few years that speak better english than the Italians that have been there for 30. ToriAllen Posted September 11, 2006 Posted September 11, 2006 I haven't heard about anything like that around here, and we have quite a few Hispanics, especially during harvest time. It is possible that if such a thing is offered, they aren't aware of it. I know there are some that don't want to learn, some that don't know about the opportunities to learn, and some that haven't been here long enough to have learned. Learning a language does take time. snafu Posted September 11, 2006 Posted September 11, 2006 I'm with you on that. My spanish is lacking, simply from not using it enough. I'm brushing up on it (have all my old high school books, and family) and speak in Spanish to Isabel. When I show her something, I tell her the word in english and spanish. When she stays at my mom's, she talks to her mostly in Spanish. My mother and uncles were raised bi-lingual ( as was I to an extent) and I plan to raise my daughter that way. The earlier you start, the easier it is. You don't use it much because you live in America! ENGLISH PLEASE! And Tori those people you know from other countries that are bilingual because they traveled out of their country. If I were in Russia I would try to learn their language too. Ask the other Russians how many languages they know. You might need a interpeter. Quote "You can't stop insane people from doing insane things by passing insane laws. That's just insane!" I'm saying that Americans should know more than just English. The fact that so many American know only English gives us a disadvantage. Most Russians know more than one language because there are so many different dialects there. squirrel341 Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 I think we should all learn to bilingual. That way they will understand us when we tell them to go the fuck home! Quote
