Well, that eliminates Barack's first choice for VP.

Don't worry, maybe Nancy Pelosi can recomend Mumia Abu-Jamal to be his running mate. They seem to love the guy enough. All he did was murder a police officer, why should he get the death penalty? Might as well make him VP.

Gray had had been convicted in connection with a spree of four murders and eight rapes in the Fayetteville, N.C., area over eight months in the late 1980s while stationed at Fort Bragg

Private Gray was convicted of committing brutal crimes, including two murders, an attempted murder and three rapes. The victims included a civilian and two members of the Army. ... The president's thoughts and prayers are with the victims of these heinous crimes and their families and all others affected.

"While approving a sentence of death for a member of our armed services is a serious and difficult decision for a commander in chief, the president believes the facts of this case leave no doubt that the sentence is just and warranted," White House press secretary Dana Perino said.

I can't believe I am writing this, but I have no problem with Bush's decision.

I have a problem with the Supreme Court's decision that child rapists or other rapists, can't get the death penalty but under US military law they can.

Well, I'm psychotic when it comes to people hurting children - in child rape cases I'd like them to be castrated then made to eat their own genitals.

But I suppose it's more heinous for military personnel to commit these crimes, because they are trained to protect and defend people ........ and uh, kill ... and this brews up a whole new kettle of , doesn't it?

Does he deserve a harsher punishment because he belongs to a 'harsh' military world? Or are his actions somewhat defensible because he has been trained to hurt people - and generally desensitized?

Exactly. Does joining the military mean you aren't privy to the same rights as someone who doesn't?

I think the Supereme Court and the Congress have a conundrum to clean up on this ruling.

Tried to give you rep but apparently I've already given you too much.

Anyway, I agree with your last sentence.

Don't worry about it. I decided it's best for me to not give rep myself, as to not give the impression of preference of one member in exclusion to others, since I'm a mod.

I don't expect to get any, but I'm fine with that.

The only objection I have to this, is they should have executed him years ago, not hold off a few years.

So like, what exactly is the military's method of execution anyway? Firing squad would rule !!

.

.

I hope not. The firing squad option is a soldiers death. This piece of lost soldier status in committing the crimes he committed.

He should be hung like a common criminal.

Oh happy birthday Phender !!

The US military uses lethal injection.

My only question with this is why is this man still a member of the US military?

Probably because if he was discharged the court of military law would lose jurisdiction and he would have to be prosecuted in a civil court where some dumb ass jury might aquit him, ala O.J. Simpson.

Just a guess.

Just arrested another soldier from Fort Bragg for killing his 7 month pregnant fiance who was a soldier too..

Now their just saying on the news he used his psy - ops training to try to throw the cops off the trail... Tax dollars well spent.

Better send his a$$ back to school. If he had learned the subject, would he have been caught?

I read somewhere that he was convicted by a civil court, and was sentenced to like two life sentences, but the military court is the one that decided to to the death penalty.

What's better:

Let this guy rot in jail

of have the president "Sign an oder to execute a member of our military"

I'm trusted by more women.
