Man described as 'robot' stabs, then decapitates passenger on Greyhound bus

PORTAGE LA PRAIRIE, Manitoba — A man aboard a Greyhound bus repeatedly stabbed and then decapitated a fellow passenger, witnesses said today.

The man was arrested for the killing, which occurred Wednesday night aboard a bus traveling from Edmonton, Alberta, to Winnipeg, Manitoba, The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said in a statement.

Authorities declined to name the attacker and victim, and provided no other details about the attack.

But passenger Garnet Caton said the victim was stabbed dozens of times by the man sitting next to him. The passenger then severed the man's head with a large knife.

"We heard this bloodcurdling scream and turned around, and the guy was standing up, stabbing this guy repeatedly, like 40 or 50 times," Caton said from a hotel in Brandon, Manitoba, where he and other passengers had been taken to rest.

"There was no rage or anything. He was like a robot, stabbing the guy."

Caton said passengers raced from the bus but then he, the bus driver and a trucker at the scene re-boarded to see what was happening.

Caton said he saw the suspect had the victim on the floor of the bus and "was cutting his head off and pretty much gutting him."

He said the attacker calmly came to the front of the bus to show off the head.

"He dropped the head and went back and started cutting the body back up," said Cody Olmstead, a passenger from Kentville, Nova Scotia.

Wow! Someone must have really pissed in that guy's Cheerios.

I saw that guy on the news today.. that's about the craziest thing I've ever heard. And Canada?

He said the guy was sleeping, wearing an Ipod when the lunitic started stabbing him.

And these psychos live amongst us... They should study him like the creature that he is, then put him to sleep. He's defective and not right.

Prolly a Cubs fan.. :p

Probably. There was yet another story that I read today regarding stupid Cubs fans. This time against a Milwaukee Brewers fan. Again, gaining up on people:rolleyes: Then this morning on my way to work, this guy called up the radio station bragging about how he had paid some "gangbangers" 50 bucks to beat up a Sox fan for him once. What a coward.

I bet that guy wish he had a gun.

I know I sound like a broken record but every time I see something like this, I wonder why people don't care to protect themselves. Chi you sound so sorrowful and keep asking why this happens. But the fact of the matter is that there are evil people on this planet. There will always be evil on this planet and It can not be eradicated. The only defense is self preservation.

One of my biggest fears of dieing is some freak deciding to take my life and all will be able to think about is "why did I leave my gun home this time?"

If that poor bastard had a gun that freak woulda prolly killed more people with it. That guy said he was waving his knife at them through the partially closed door before he went back and cut his head off. The bus driver had disabled the bus somehow.. Must have a safety device for situations like this.

Yeah he might have or the guy getting stabbed would'a pulled it out and finished the asshole with one shot. Or like IWS said if someone on the bus had a gun they would'a stopped it just as fast. The thing is the IF factor is more on your side as apposed to just taking it and dying.

It doesn't sound like anyone tried to stop the psycho, or help the guy being stabbed. I find that almost as horrible as the stabbing itself.

Snaf- Bad things are still going to continue happening even if every single person on the planet is armed 24/7. I'm betting MUCH more bad things. It'll make it easier for the wrong people to get access to guns. Careless people leave their guns accessible to kids. People will try to outdo and outpower eachother with better, more powerful weapons. And who wants to live in a world like that and where that is normal, really?

And don't get me wrong, I am NOT anti-gun. I'm just stating there are some drawbacks to that, too. Maybe at least bus drivers and pilots should get training on what to do in certain situations and get some weapon training. At least get a taser gun.

Snaf- I don't think I can even trust myself with a gun. I shot a gun one time and liked it just a little too much (that's me below).... Plus, I can get a terrible temper at times and can have a hard time calming down. So I don't know...

Guns aren't for everyone. And I don't advocate everyone should carry one.

The glory of the right to bear arms is that no one knows who's packin. So you could be caring from a bear spry for protection to a glock. Most predators go for the weakest pry. If he thinks your packin I think he's gonna find another mark (or Jane whichever way he swings.).

I agree. Criminals and psychos are usually cowards. They mostly target children, women, the elderly, people much smaller than them and tend to use weapons. That's probably why this sob targeted a 19yr old. He wasn't sitting next to him when he first borded the bus, but sat next to him after a stop. That's why the other asshole on the other post targeted a bunch of swimmers too, because he KNEW they would be helpless in the water.

And not only was the guy on the bus young, but he must've been even more taken by surprise because he was busy being distracted by the music on his IPod.

A bit of an update...

Police identify Canadian bus attack suspect

By ROB GILLIES, Associated Press Writer

TORONTO - A 40-year-old man who witnesses said stabbed and beheaded his seat mate on a Greyhound bus in Canada made his first court appearance Friday, while police offered no motive for the savage attack against the 22-year-old carnival worker.

Vince Weiguang Li, of Edmonton, Alberta, has been charged with second-degree murder. He shuffled into the courtroom Friday in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba with his head bowed and feet shackled.

Authorities have not released the victim's name but The Canadian Press said friends had identified him as Tim McLean and said he was headed to Winnipeg after working with the carnival in Edmonton.

William Caron, 23, said McLean was quiet, though he liked to socialize with friends. He was small — about 5-foot-4 and 130 pounds — and tended stayed away from a fight, Caron said.
