I also figure a busload of people could have overpowered him without incurring too much personal harm (ie - a lot of people get stabbed once each and live, as opposed to one person being stabbed to death).

 

I see what you guys are saying, but who's to say what we would've done in that situation. Unless I was a big ass guy, I know I wouldn't have intervened unless it was my kid or something. I'm willing to admit I'm not risking my life for a complete stranger against a f u c k i n psycho. Call me heartless, selfish, whatever, but I'm willing to admit that.

 

The police didn't even subdue him until HOURS later. I don't see how. It could have been taken care of right away with a bullet to the freakin' head.

You need a few people working in orchestration. I don't think I would have the balls to throw myself on him not knowing someone else would be there to help me. A bus load of people would normally just get the hell out of the way which they did. Now if I were sitting on that same bus with my trusty Colt 45, he might have only gotten away with a few stabs.

It would be pretty shocking.. self preservation is a strong instinct. Plus, they knew the poor kid was dead, prolly instantly. He stabbed him in the neck multiple times before anyone even realized what was going on most likely. They couldn't have saved his life.

You are not alone Chi. Most people would not intervene. Some are too fearful of the possibilities, others are just terrified.

 

Tackling a knife maniac without a weapon is pretty dumb.

Like Snaf mentioned, only if others were willing to help, too. It also probably happened very fast and most people on that bus were shocked and afraid. I'm not saying I would never and have never helped others, because I have. But I just know I wouldn't have risked putting myself in a situation that I probably won't be able to handle. I help how I can, which I'm sure is what those people tried to do, too. I'm also sure some are feeling a lot of guilt anyway.

 

That one stab per peron scenario doesn't fly with me. That one stab could mean one less arm, one less eye or one fatal stab. And that's only if a person were to be so lucky to only endure ONE stab from a swinging psycho with nothing to lose, a "Rambo knife" and all the while you're empty handed. Also, for all they knew he could've produced a gun, a bomb, etc. He was unpredictable.

 

It freakin sucks, but that poor kid could've died anyway even if others had risked their lives and maybe lost theirs, too.

I can't watch this right now because I'm at work, but what's the summary on this? Is he a cannibal and just couldn't help himself or what.

 

For some reason, when I was reading up on this story a few days ago, it reminded me of Albert Fish (probably because of the cannabalism.) How Albert Fish said his neighbor had turned him on to the idea of eating children's flesh because of "how good and sweet it tasted". Supposedly his neighbor got into it while he was serving in China, where people would buy and kipnap children for food and meat because of the great starvation and poverty happening at the time.

Our forebears also were cannibals. There is a cave system in Cheddar Gorge England. It has cave painting of the animals that the cave dwellers hunted then. Bones of long extinct animals were found there, rhino's etc.

 

They also found human bones. The bones had all been fleshed. This means that the flesh was striped from the bones, they know this because of the minute blade marks all over the bones.

 

We dont know what they did with the flesh once they got it off, but my guess is cannibalism.

 

In Papau New Guinea where they still eat people, they call it "long pig". It seems we taste of pork.
