Anna Perenna Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 What about the baby's body? I feel that while the baby is inside the mother it is a part of her body, so she should have the right to choose whether or not she wants to carry it to term. I have no memories from the womb and before a foetus is 12 weeks old it's just a blob. Even mid-term foetuses are in a state of unconsciousness, so they don't feel pain. This is relevant, but only in less than 2% of all abortions in the US. (I know you love outside the US Anna, but this is real stats that we can look at) http://www.abortiontv.com I used the rape example to bring attention to a very common situation where women are not allowed to choose what is happening to their bodies (even though the rape scenario is one where I subsequently support a woman's choice to have an abortion, it wasn't my point in this case) Abortion as a form of birth control, is - in my opinion - disgusting and unnecessary. Abortion as a form of heartless/thoughtless birth control is - in my opinion - disgusting and unnecessary. I actually agree with you here. But my opinion on the tastefulness or morality of abortion isn't relevant. I have no right to tell another woman what to do with her own body. I'm kind of a big deal. http://www.sucksbbs.net/data/MetaMirrorCache/da43a2f8a710897a421f74efa00eba9a.jpg I'm still here. I'm still a fool for the holy grail Not all gay men send me penis pictures. But no straight men do. And to date, no woman has sent me a picture of her vaginal canal.
timesjoke Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 I have no right to tell another woman what to do with her own body. Nobody is trying to tell a woman what to do with her body. The woman already made that "choice" of what to do with her body when she had the risky unprotected sexual encounter. The result of that "choice" created a life. An abortion is not a choice, it is a (bad) reaction to a choice already made and a way to escape taking responsibility for that "choice". Attempting to call the life something else is simply playing semantics. If not interrupted, a person is borne, it is life. Also, what matters if it is unconscious? Are you saying murder is okay as long as the life you kill does not feel pain? Quote
