You get something out of it at a personal level, and thats OK. My gripe are the people who pound on my door with their god crap. And also those poisoning little minds with it. Also the prejudice atheists are subjected to by these people. Well, if they are going to chase me in here, with their rubbish, lets rumble ! I'll probably calm down in a few months. But I'll be raving for a bit yet .. Quote

Guest Fullauto Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 I used to be a fire and brimstone atheist... I've come to terms with religion since I've grown older and have had some new experiences... I've gotten over the 'look down my nose' faze that all new/insecure atheist tend to go through, and now I first look to understand, then look to be understood... I get along much better with religious people now... Quote
hugo Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 On religious issues there can be little or no compromise. There is no position on which people are so immovable as their religious beliefs. There is no more powerful ally one can claim in a debate than Jesus Christ, or God, or Allah, or whatever one calls this supreme being. But like any powerful weapon, the use of God's name on one's behalf should be used sparingly. The religious factions that are growing throughout our land are not using their religious clout with wisdom. They are trying to force government leaders into following their position 100 percent. If you disagree with these religious groups on a particular moral issue, they complain, they threaten you with a loss of money or votes or both. I'm frankly sick and tired of the political preachers across this country telling me as a citizen that if I want to be a moral person, I must believe in "A," "B," "C" and "D." Just who do they think they are? And from where do they presume to claim the right to dictate their moral beliefs to me? And I am even more angry as a legislator who must endure the threats of every religious group who thinks it has some God-granted right to control my vote on every roll call in the Senate. I am warning them today: I will fight them every step of the way if they try to dictate their moral convictions to all Americans in the name of "conservatism." Speech in the US Senate (16 September 1981) Barry Goldwater Quote The power to do good is also the power to do harm. - Milton Friedman "I cannot undertake to lay my finger on that article of the Constitution which granted a right to Congress of expending, on objects of benevolence, the money of their constituents." - James Madison

snafu Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 I found another good time to pray. When someone you love is hurt. Now I'm not the kind of person that really believes in miracles. I mean if god could cure people we wouldn?t have disparity at all here on earth. Well at least not for the faithful. But I find it comforting in praying when I have absolutely no other recourse. Strangely it dose give me comfort if not for the suffering. My cousin?s husband and daughter were in a car crash this weekend. What the paper fails to tell you is that my second cousin was pregnant and she lost her child in this crash. I don?t think she knows it now because she still isn?t conscious. eddo Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 I mean if god could cure people we wouldn?t have disparity at all here on earth. Well at least not for the faithful. Why not?? Where does God promise the believer an earthy life free from pain, struggle, or anything that the non-believer won't have to deal with on earth? The difference is that God does promise not to leave us during those struggles, and He promises to help us through them. and I will be praying for your cousin, her hubby, and their daughter, Snaf. Sorry to hear about the baby. Quote I'm trusted by more women.

I am terribly sorry to hear all this, Snafu. I recall a quote attributed to Abraham Lincoln upon witnessing his youngest boy's death, William Wallace Lincoln 1850-1862: "My poor boy. He was too good for this earth. God has called him home. I know that he is much better off in heaven, but then we loved him so. It is hard, hard to have him die!" Semper fi. A couple years ago he broke his back and was back on the circuit in 6 mos. I think with guys like that, it's all they know. Pretty sad nonetheless. Yeah I knew a few of people like that. I had a friend that used to race snowmachines, motorcycles and anything else with a tricked out engine. He had an accedent flying accrossed a road and a car hit him head on. He messed up his knee pretty bad. Ironicly he died by drowning. He bought a really fast air boat that had problems with the engine. It kept on shutting off and the only way to start it was one person turning the key and the other messing with the wires on the engine. Well it stalled and instead of waiting a bit, they fired it up to soon. The wake they made when they stalled nosed the boat down. So when they started it, it shot right under the rapids. wez Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 Hey eddo.. More bad rep? "Sh tty thing to do to snaf"? I'm gonna say this once, and once only as you've been trying to repeat this into reality for almost a week now.. Has nothing to do with snaf, I reposted your comment as the bible talks about persons such as yourself who like to pray on corners and be seen praying by men.. To be seen as "A man of God".. What you are doing is a sh tty, selfish thing to do to snaf, and that is drag him into your bullsh t, attempt to convince him I was somehow demeaning the value of his recent loss, piss him off, take the focus off yourself, and try to build another "lets get wez" gang. I fully expect your little plan to stop now.. And to you snaf.. If you were offended by me reposting eddo's comment on the quote post in some way, I truly apologize. It was to make a point to eddo only, and had nothing to do with you. And again.. So sorry for your loss.. Quote
