Chi Posted March 4, 2009 Author Posted March 4, 2009 Drat! I didn't do my homework last night, Chi. hangs head in shame and sits in the corner I will let you know when I watch it, though! Chi, that sounds really good! He was a pretty fascinating fellow. I'd love to check that documentary out. Frida Kahlo - man, she was an interesting woman! I dig her self portraits and anyone who can be in an accident where a bus hand rail winds up going through her vagina and then turn that grisly experience into art?.....they get a thumbs up in my book. Oh I didn't expect you to watch it:p I thought you just wanted to know how it was in case you ever did-lol. Quote

Anna Perenna Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Alright, enough of my rambling (I can't sleep right now), what kind of movies do you guys/ladies like? I like action / heavy / martial arts movies. If it has Arnie, Sly, Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Harvey Keitel, Jackie Chan, Quentin Tarantino, Kung Fu, etc in it, then I love it. I often watch the montage from Rocky 2 whenever I need a pick-me-up. On a side note, Sly Stallone is the most under-appreciated movie star ever and I own everything he has ever made. Even Judge Dredd. The best film I've seen recently is Kung Fu Hustle with Stephen Chow. It is hands down brilliant, and really funny too. Chi Posted March 31, 2009 Author Posted March 31, 2009 For anyone interested in documentaries like me, I saw some really good ones over the weekend. I saw Hoop Dreams, Orphan Train & Chicago by "L". Hoop Dreams was filmed over the span of 5yrs following the lives of two inner city kids, Arthur Agee and William Gates as they struggle to get ahead, out of poverty and get a good education by using their basketball skills. It's a very good movie, even if you don't like basketball. It gives you a good insight into the lives of these two families and it helps you to not be so judgemental and a little bit more openminded about other people. This is as real as reality tv can get without secretly filming someone. Orphan Train is a documentary that taps the surface of the social experimeny (by the very same name) conducted by the rich philanthropist Charles Loring Brace and his Children's Aid Society. It consisted of placing an estimated 200,000 orphan, abandoned and homeless children mostly from New York City into Midwest homes in the country from 1854 to 1929. It's a sad, sometimes happy and funny recounting of this story by some of the surviving then children and one adoptive parent. This is a big piece of history, not widely known about. Lastly, I saw "Chicago by L". This one may not be that interesting for those that don't live in this city, ever plan to visit it, etc. It basically touches on the history of our rail train system and the neighborhoods it travels by (Chinatown, Little Italy, Pilsen, etc.) at the time this documentary was made (the transit system has been expanded and changed a little since it was filmed.) It's still interesting if you don't live here nonetheless. I also saw Fun with Dick & Jane and started seeing Capote (probably the most movies ever on a weekend for me, I'm trying to save money.) If anyone saw Capote before and it sucks, please let me know. So far it's kinda boring and the guy's voice is annoying, I'm waiting for the good parts of the movie to come already. Do they ever? Chi Posted September 8, 2009 Author Posted September 8, 2009 I like to watch documentaries at home. I love war movies and can't wait to go to Tom Cruse's "Valkyrie". It's a story of just one of the many attempts on Hitlers life. The problem is my wife and son aren't interested so I either go alone or find a friend. I love comedy and stand up. those sound pretty good Chi! One of my favorite sitcoms is King of Queens so it stands to reason that I want to see Paul Blart in "Mall Cop". That's got to be funny. Jim Carrey cracks me up and I loved Bruce Almighty also with Jennifer Aniston (Speaking of which I think I need to add her to my JustBS harem.) The last movie I went to that was just the other week was Jim Carrey in the "Yes Man" It was kinda like "Liar Liar" but much much better. Very funny and a must see. "Night at the Museum" with Ben Stiller and an extremely well know cast was another great movie and I'm expecting to see "Night at the Museum Battle at the Smithsonian" soon. YouTube - Night at the Museum 2 Official Trailer HQ Hey Snaf - Finally got around to seeing Yes Man the other day. I liked it:) I think I've liked every single movie Jim Carrey has ever made. Some more than others, but I've enjoyed all of them. I like him, he's naturally funny and likeable. Quote
atlantic Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 Chi I just recently saw MallCop, it was horrible. Aliens in the Attack was hilarious though. Took my son to see it and was surprised how funny it was. Quote Do the right thing!

snafu Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 I think King of Queens is one of the funniest sitcoms out there. Having said that I was disappointed in Mall Cop. I was expecting more from him I guess but I still think he's one of the funniest people out there. Quote "You can't stop insane people from doing insane things by passing insane laws. RoyalOrleans Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 I watched Rob Zombie's remake of "Halloween" last Sunday. I highly recommend it! Quote To be the Man, you've got to beat the Man. - Ric Flair Everybody knows I'm known for dropping science.
emkay64 Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 I watched Rob Zombie's remake of "Halloween" last Sunday. I highly recommend it! Saw it...very good very grim. Also took in Halloween 2 (2009)...very grim with plenty crappy symbolic flourishes to make it edgy (stoopid). The kill scenes were particularly brutal. It's my contention that much celery died in the making of this film. Quote

My boyfriend says I'm Carrie's character to a tee. We do have a lot of similarities... Quote
mercury Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 I watched one called The Chumscrubbers a couple weeks ago. It was pretty good... dark comedy basically communicating how the suburbs suck the originality out of you. Quote
