Guest NewsBot Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 WASHINGTON (AP) -- Joining a wave of public anger, President Barack Obama blistered insurance giant AIG for "recklessness and greed" Monday and pledged to try to block it from handing its executives $165 million in bonuses after taking billions in federal bailout money. "How do they justify this outrage to the taxpayers who are keeping the company afloat?" Obama asked. "This isn't just a matter of dollars and cents. It's about our fundamental values."... RoyalOrleans Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 So??? The bonuses equaled 1/10th of one percent of the total bailout! We, the American Tax Payer, have 165 billion invested in AIG. If it fails, our money turns to utter sh!t! Pay the employees their contractually agreed wage, tips, and bonuses so that we can get this economy moving again. ImWithStupid Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 This is what they should be mad that US taxpayer subsidized money went to... In all, AIG disclosed payments of $105.3 billion between September and December 2008. And some of the biggest recipients were European banks. Societe Generale, based in France, was the top foreign recipient at $11.9 billion, Deutsche Bank of Germany got $11.8 billion and Barclays, based in England, was paid $8.5 billion. AIG ships billions in bailout abroad - Eamon Javers - POLITICO.com much more than the executive bonuses. At least there's a chance that the bonus money might be spent here, in our economy. Quote
Old Salt Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 It depends on whether or not they were contractually obligated to pay the money. But that opens another whole can of worms. Quote
eddo Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 Getting pissed off over how a company spends free money seems silly to me. It's those idiots in Congress that gave these banks the free pass on this money. Obama (and quite frankly, every American) should be pissed at them, not at AIG. 1 Quote I'm trusted by more women.
Old Salt Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 Senator Grassley from Iowa has the right idea: "I suggest, you know, obviously, maybe they ought to be removed," Grassley said. "But I would suggest the first thing that would make me feel a little bit better toward them if they'd follow the Japanese example and come before the American people and take that deep bow and say, I'm sorry, and then either do one of two things: resign or go commit suicide. "And in the case of the Japanese, they usually commit suicide before they make any apology." Grassley Resign Suicide AIG Quote
