Guest NewsBot Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 NEW YORK (AP) -- Starting in the morning and going into the night, TV stations across the U.S. are cutting their analog signals Friday, ending a six-decade era for the technology and likely stranding more than 1 million unprepared homes without TV service.... Ahhlee Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 Seriously? How can people not be prepared for this? I put extra tinfoil on my rabbit ears so I'll be fine, but those other people who didn't plan ahead sure be stoopid. Quote

ImWithStupid Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 Seven hundred thousand calls on Friday. One hundred thousand asking about government coupons for converter boxes. I'm pretty sure we all said in February, that no matter how long you put this off, dumb a$$ people will still not be ready. Good thing Obama delayed this, costing the broadcast industry millions of dollars. Thanks, Chi. Quote

RoyalOrleans Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 It happened just as we predicted. Around 12:30 last Friday afternoon the switches were thrown and America's television stations turned off their analog signals. All that was left was digital. We've known about this for over a year. For over six months virtually all of these TV stations were broadcasting announcements about the switch. If you watch TV even a little you've seen hundreds of announcements telling you that the switch was coming and that you needed to take steps to make sure you could still watch your precious boob tube. The government was handing out coupons whereby the dumb masses could tap the taxpayers for the cost of a converter box. There were volunteers out there attaching the conversion boxes for people who still haven't managed to master the ballpoint pen. Everything that could be done was done. And yet ... on Friday afternoon the calls came pouring in to the TV stations ....... "What happened to my soap opera?" "Where can you get one of them converter things?" "I can't afford one of them converter things." "Where is Barack Obama's birth certificate?" "Why didn't you warn us this was going to happen?" "I have a right to TV." "The government needs to do something about this." We are presented with a great opportunity here. Let's get the names of all of the ignoranuses who couldn't figure this thing out by Friday and get them converted to digital ... with one condition. They surrender their voter registration cards. We have enough idiots voting in this country ... and since there is no Constitutional right to vote in a federal election, we need to find ways to cull the herd. Clearly anyone who couldn't figure out this analog-to-digital conversion thing isn't bright enough to cast an intelligent vote. Sure ... we need them. Someone has to cook the French fries ... but we don't need them voting. Quote To be the Man, you've got to beat the Man. - Ric Flair Everybody knows I'm known for dropping science.

She was defending the idiots who weren't ready in February, which caused the Messiah to delay the switch, and costing the television industry millions of dollars more. Um, I pointed out there was a shortage in my area on the converters not anything relating to any type of confusion. That dilema has been long resolved, so nah! raspberries Also if I remember correctly, I think it was OS who had a similar outlook as me regarding this, yet no one is thanking him or making similar smart ass remarks towards him. Interesting... Oh yeah, he isn't an Obama supporter so that makes it TOTALLY different:rolleyes: Quote
Chi Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 And I also don't see HOW anyone with a tv, who watches tv, can still be confused or not have a clue about the switch. Unless they are senile or really that dumb/clueless. Quote

Ahhlee Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 Yes, someone has to cook the french fries. I guess that would be me. Life is funny. Sometimes you wind up doing things not because you want to, but because you have to in order to survive. Every morning I wake up and mend together the last tattered shred of dignity I have with staples and duct tape and go to work. What I do is not glamorous. What I do is not dignified. I realize that my job is the laughing stock of the job world and even though I am merely the sludge that the bottom feeders at the depths of the barrel dine on, at least it pays the bills and keeps myself and others like me from suckling Uncle Sam's already overcrowded, overstressed government teat. How I manage to tie my shoe laces let alone make an informed vote in the last election is nothing short of a miracle. Perhaps IWS would be willing to give me one of his bullets right between the eyes if culling the herd is what is necessary and right to keep things running efficiently for the majority. Fortunately for me, I've saved enough money from the french fries I've made to explore the option of going back to school. See, I'm one of those crazy people who still believes in the American dream that even someone as lowly as myself who has experienced some major setbacks in her life can still, through hard work and perseverence, make something of herself. Actually, I'm even lower than low....not only do I flip burgers, but I'm also battling a weight problem (sure, I look completely different than I did even a mere 6 months ago but the emotional scars are still there), have been divorced, am 37, single and childless and am living in the boonies which offers me the social life of a dried up turd but I still maintain hope that even I can someday become someone of value in our society and worthy of at least a small amount of respect. That being said, I must go as I have french fries to tend to and a future to plan. Both are keeping me very busy. Have a great summer and a happy Fourth of July, everyone! God bless America Quote
ImWithStupid Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 Apples and oranges, Ali. Difference is, you own the fryer. I know people who started out in high school, working at a local restaraunt, a chain restaraunt, or other business, at a low level job and worked hard, bought into the business and eventually owned it outright. You're an entrepreneuer, not a patty flipper. Quote

Ohh... I fukken concur. Someone has to own, operate, and manage the facilities where the fry-cooking and patty flipping is performed. Huge... megalithic difference. And if you're the "hands on" type of manager, you're an overachiever. Salutations. God Bless America, indeed.
