BOSTON (AP) -- Many police officers across the country have a message for President Barack Obama: Get all the facts before criticizing one of our own. Obama's public criticism that Cambridge officers "acted stupidly" when they arrested black Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. could make it harder for police to work with people of color, some officers said Thursday....

And just who was prejudiced? Was it the cop who responded to a call about a black man breaking and entering? How could he act any better than he did given the information he had and the belligerent attitude of Prof. Gates?

It would be more accurate to say that Gates reacted with prejudice to the white cop who dared to question him and ask for his identity without knowing or caring why Crowley was even asking. It might also be fair to say that the woman who first made the call to the police reacted with prejudice when she saw a black man trying to 'break' into his own house. Why doesn't Gates spew his venom about that?

Perhaps the prejudice was from the highest executive officer in the country when he ignorantly decided that police in Cambridge acted stupidly, a decision he came to only seconds after stating that he did not have all the facts.

Officer Crowley had a duty to investigate the break-in call (one that specifically mentioned the race of the alleged perpetrator), and from what I can tell, he did it professionally in the face of stupidity and race-baiting.

You know, people used to say "Only in America" as if to say: only in a country like the USA could someone rise from poverty and obscurity to the heights of success and fame. Or only in America could we have such freedoms. Nowadays, however, it seems to mean that only in America could something this asinine make national headlines.

Well Obama certainly showed his true colors on this topic.

A police officer shows up on a call like this and questions a guy to be sure he belongs there, how can that be seen as racist?

I believe this officer took massive amounts of abuse just because he was white, where is the racist claims against Gates?

Clearly the only racist in this situation was Gates.

Obama owes this officer an appology.

Could you imagin how much of a storm would have been created if the officer had resorted to returning a "yo mama" joke?

Hey Bender, no comment on how your messiah screwed up in putting down the officers in this? Do you think Obama owes this officer an appology?

And if Obama does not, will that teach you something about his character?

This just in:

President Obama stopped short of an apology to Sgt. James Crowley on Friday for saying he "acted stupidly" for arresting black Harvard scholar Henry Lewis Gates Jr., but said he should have chosen his words more carefully.

At an impromptu appearance at the daily White House briefing, Obama said he spoke with Crowley over the phone, and said he wanted to share a beer with Crowley and Gates at the White House.

"Because this has been ratcheting up and I helped contribute to ratcheting it up, I want to make clear that in my choice of words I unfortunately gave an impression that I was maligning the Cambridge Police Department or Sgt. Crowley specifically and I could have calibrated those words differently."

"My sense is you've got two good people in a circumstance in which neither of them were able to resolve it the way the wanted to resolve it," Obama added.

So Obama was not man enough to admit he was wrong, typical Liberal/Socialist elitist mindset.

Gates is the racist, not the cops Mr. President, try looking past your own hate for a change.

You should post that in context

I actually just had a conversation with Sergeant James Crowley," Obama said, "and I have to tell you that, as I said yesterday, my impression of him is that he was an outstanding police officer...and that was confirmed in the phone conversation.

"Because this has been ratcheting up, and I helped to contribute to the ratcheting up...in my choice of words, I unfortunately gave the impression that I was maligning the Cambridge Police Department or Sergeant Crowley specifically," he continued. "I continue to believe, based on what I have heard, that there was an overreaction in pulling Prof. Gates out of his home and to the station. I also continue to believe, based on what I heard, that Prof. Gates probably overreacted as well."

"Because of our history...African Americans are sensitive to these issues.

What context do you need Bender?

Either Obama was man enough to admit he was wrong or he wasn't.

He called them stupid Bender, and it was instead his buddy that was stupid. Did you see him admit that it was Gates who caused this issue? Did Obama call Gates "mama" comments stupid?

Did Obama say anything negative about the extremely bad behavior from Gates?

Here you are again Bender, making excuses for Obama, why are you incapable of seeing Obama for what he really is? Are you that brainwashed?

What do you expect him to do, suck the cops balls?

Do you think this is some kind of fukking party line issue and the Democrats are defending Gates?

Check out DU, and guess again. You have ALOT of them saying "Hey, if Gates wouldn't have been such a fukking jerk off in the first place, accusing people of racism, and screaming like a maniac, it never would have happened.

The President, on the other hand, has to express that same opinion in a nonchalant way because he is the President.

I think he articulated that point rather well.

Get over yourself, TJ. It wasn't that big a deal. He said they acted stupidly, big deal. So he made a mistake. From the surface, it does sound pretty bad when you get arrested in your own house when your minding your own business.

He's accepted responsibility and stated his change of heart. Get over it. Mr. Crowley seems to have.

It's also quite irresponsible for the President from his "bully pulpit" to take sides in an issue, that he admits he didn't have the facts on.

It is already causing problems for police. Police in several cities across the nation are reporting incidents where they attempt to ID someone doing something suspicious and are getting the response that "The President says they don't have to".

He obviously took Gates' side because "scofflaw" Obama has it in for the Cambridge PD...

Obama paid late parking tickets

Racked up penalties while at Harvard

By David Abel, Globe Staff | March 8, 2007

Barack Obama is no longer a scofflaw, at least in Cambridge and Somerville.

Two weeks before the US senator from Illinois launched his presidential campaign, he paid parking tickets he received while attending Harvard Law School, officials said yesterday.

Obama received 17 parking tickets in Cambridge between 1988 and 1991, according to the city's Traffic, Parking & Transportation Department.

Of those tickets, he paid only two while he was a student and paid them late, said Susan Clippinger, the office's director.

In January, about when the Globe began asking local officials about Obama's time at Harvard, including any violations of local laws, someone representing the senator called the parking office to inquire about the decades-old tickets.

On Jan. 26, the remaining $375 in fines and fees were paid by credit card using the city's website, Clippinger said. She said she didn't know who paid them.

I agree too, but man, what do you do when your on live TV and instead of discussing REAL issues like our economy and health care, one of these "LIBERAL MEDIA" reporters wants to know what's up with Gates so they have something to gossip about?

I doubt you yourself would ever be able to articulate the proper words that you want right there on the spot. NOBODY can. I know I'd never be able to do it without it coming out like I meant something different.

I do it all the time. People ask me why a cop did this or that or why they didn't do this or that on some case. I just say I wasn't there, I can't answer as to what the reason for that persons actions could be.

Did you not understand?

No, to simply admit he was completely wrong and this case was not about police profiling and racism as he accused this officer of doing.

There was racism involved, but it was not being exercised by the police officer, and he should have addressed that as well.

None of these other people are the President of the United States calling a cop a racist and stupid, Obama is and it is "HIS" responsibility for setting that wrong right.

The President, on the other hand, has to express that same opinion in a nonchalant way because he is the President.

I think he articulated that point rather well.

Yes, the way he was able to call this police officer a racist was very nonchalant.

My point is Obama never once mentioned Gate's words as racist or wrong.

"Gates probably overreacted"

Probably is not a resolute statement of wrong, he is giving a very weak and sorry comment only because the polls were against him. Obama does not feel bad for the harm he has caused on this officer and all officers who happen to be white and now must work areas where they now have the support of the President to resist white cops.

Get over yourself, TJ. It wasn't that big a deal. He said they acted stupidly, big deal. So he made a mistake. From the surface, it does sound pretty bad when you get arrested in your own house when your minding your own business.

But he was not minding his own business, that was known from square one. Obama knew Gates was arrested following a issue with police looking into a break in. Obama assumed from that point everything innocent and pure for his black friend, and everything evil for the white officer.

That is a big deal when the top leader of our Country believes as his first instinct that white cops must be racist against blacks.

He's accepted responsibility and stated his change of heart. Get over it. Mr. Crowley seems to have.

Mr Crowley only got this half hearted and begrudging reaction because of his CPR on Reggie Lewis. This gave him real credibility that he could not be acting out of racist intent because if you really hate black people, why would you put your lips on one to try and save his life?

Once again we do see another example of how poorly Obama performs without scripted lines to parrot from his tele prompter.

As much crap as Bush got for not being a good speaker and we see more and more evidence that Obama is not really much better off the cuff. I think Obama needs to stick with his ABC informercials, they seem to be more his strength.

Well, TJ, then just chalk it up to another one of your conspiracy/complaints about the President and live with it. Everyone else has.

Well, I'll say this much. I was not one of those who questioned his presidency saying the election was stolen, but I am one of those who feels he should have been, and still should be, impeached, prosecuted, and imprisoned for war crimes. Dick Cheney too. Notice however, I have no real animosity towards the Republican party in general, except to say, they do nothing anymore but complain. If they did more then that, then it might be worth taking notice.

As for my complaints being conspiracy, not a chance. It's just a matter of believing that his actions were either a crime or weren't. Unlike GOP complaints like Obama being a racist, a Marxist, a Communist, a Kenyan, a Muslim, an Elitist, a socialist, a Messiah and etc, etc, etc.. All unsubstantiated (and RACIST I might add) rumors and conspiracy's all cuz the Democrat black man's in office. What fukking crybabies.

And that right there proves you do have animosity.

I have watched IWS post bill after bill proving that they are doing a lot more than just complain but you wear your blinders and refuse to let yourself see anything but what you want to see.

You refuse to admit that they are working just as hard to try and create new ideas and different paths that do not require massive Government control, if you ever start admitting the truth I will believe your not just a blind follower of your party.

His actions are racist, they are socialist, they are about grabbing control.

You dodge ever direct question I ask of you because you know I am right. I have asked you time and time again to respond to if you know all taxes are passed down to consumers and you refuse to reply because you either have to lie and pretend like it does not happen or you have to tell the truth and admit that Obama is hurting the poor he pretends to care about.

Obama called a good cop a racist, and all you can do is make excuses for him. What if that was you Bender? What if Obama had lied about you and said you were a racist? Would a half way part appology be enough? Would his dodging directly admitting his error patch the harm done to you?

This cop is twice the hero, first of all he does a job many cowardly Liberals/socialists would never do, then on top of that he graciously accepted Obama's lack of responsibility taking because it was the right thing to do for the Country. Obama is most likely still surprised at how easily he got away from that blunder.

Posted
I will give credit to Obama that when he does realize he made a blunder he admits a mistake and attempts to remedy it. I am hoping he will realize that cap and trade and expanding the governments role in healthcare is also a blunder.
