The bank manager continued to tell Brenda she was not allowed to place anymore flags infront of the bank because they might offend customers.

gaffney, s.c. -- the controversy about the placement of american flags to honor a fallen marine from gaffney could cost bank of america some local government deposit money, and perhaps much more.

Monday night, the cherokee county council voted 5 to 1 to withdraw county money from any accounts held by bank of america.

Councilman quay little said that totals more than $500,000, but that number could skyrocket. If all county officials close their accounts, bank of america would lose more than $1.5 million in customer funds, little said.

The controversy erupted last wednesday when the body of a fallen marine, lance cpl. Christopher fowlkes, was brought back to gaffney.

A woman claimed the bank of america branch along the procession route would not allow her to place american flags in the marine's honor on the bank's lawn. She said the bank manager removed them from the property. (full story)

bank of america calls what happened a miscommunication about the company's flag policy.

Fowlkes died of injuries sustained in an explosion in afghanistan. He is the first u.s. Serviceman from cherokee county to die in action since the vietnam war.

I would do the same thing if it would happen in my community. The bank is there to serve the community and when one of the community members die in combat serving the Country, allowing some flage on their lawn is the least they can do as a part of the community.

Being as they are sporting "America" in their name, is the American flag really a "bad" thing to have around their building?

Pretty bad when avoiding the display of the Nations flag is now part of the Liberal PC requirement.

Bank of America sucked long before they denied the flags.

I agree with both points wholeheartedly.

Ugh. TRUE! Aren't they being invested for fraud now, too? Not having the decency to fly the American flag to honor a fallen hero is just the final nail in the coffin.

That's one thing that is going to suck about moving...finding a new bank. Right now I'm with a small local bank where my brother is a loan officer and I can pretty much go in and ask for whatever I want and he'll have the papers ready to sign the next day. It won't be quite so simple in the city. :(

Oh well, I'm sure I'll figure something out and I'll just keep my millions stuffed in my mattress until I do. Heh.

They have these new fangled things called ATMs these days, Ali... you can keep your local bank and do your banking electronically.

We ended up with 5/3 because they have branches in both Michigan and Florida because Chris is technologically challenged and can't deal with machines that don't cut stuff up.

Yeah they sure don't mind taking American money.

Bank of America, which was already granted $25 billion in capital from the Treasury?s Troubled Asset Relief Program in October, is seeking billions more to shore up its balance sheet as it struggles with mounting losses at Merrill Lynch, which it recently acquired, said these people, who were not authorized to speak publicly.

In Ann Arbor (and surrounding areas) one must be blue & maize, with a big M in the center.

If you hang one that's green & white, with a big S, or a guy with a scrub brush attached to his helmet, the authorities will consider it justifiable homicide when they find you hanging from your flag pole with the green and white flag.

My neighbor flies the Jolly Roger lol. Not sure why...maybe he just likes pirates? Maybe he's just a tool...more than likely both.

is he a butt pirate?

I'm just wondering who would be "offended" by an American flag in the U.S.? Last I heard, it's the the flag of the United States (and if I'm not mistaken, that's the country we live in).

I've been pondering that very question today as I was busting my ass at work today. Playing devils advocate the only thing I could come up with is they wouldn't want the flag as a symbol of a war they might feel unjust. Other than that they just hate the country they live in.

I wonder why some people like to burn American flags and such as well, I guess it takes away from all the Mexican/Cuban/Puerto Rican flags in the cars/ homes/and even worn as clothing in America.

No I think I got the jest of that for some. They have the "GOD GIVEN FREEDOM" to burn the flag. It's not out of disrespect although I take offense to it. Others do it out of spite and disrespect which I take it highly offensive!

For some maybe I can agree, but is that not like 'burning your bridges'?

If you have the freedom to burn the representation of your freedom, and that creates a hostile atmosphere that forces things to be 'less' free, what did you really accomplish?

The American flag (unlike our current President) is the representation of ALL Americans as well as the concepts of our freedoms. At least it is to me.
