ImWithStupid Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 No longer the main reason to hate Venezuela... FAMILY GUY - FAMILY GUY BANNED IN VENEZUELA FAMILY GUY BANNED IN VENEZUELA Venezuelan officials are threatening TV networks with fines if they do not axe U.S. animated series FAMILY GUY from their schedule. The country's Justice Minister Tareck El Aissami ordered the controversial comedy, devised by Seth McFarlane, should be removed from the country's airtime, insisting it promotes the use of marijuana. The government was outraged after an episode in which the show's characters seemingly advocate legalising weed was broadcast to audiences. And authorities stepped up their campaign on Thursday (24Sep09) by warning any network bosses who ignore the imposed ban will be hit with a fine. American censors have also struggled with certain topics the show confronts - networks refused to air an abortion-themed episode last month (Aug09) after deciding it went too far. Ahhlee Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 "American censors have also struggled with certain topics the show confronts - networks refused to air an abortion-themed episode last month (Aug09) after deciding it went too far. " Whaaaa? I didn't know that! But when the show had its first run on the networks, they wouldn't air the "When You Wish Upon a Weinstein" episode because they declared it was anti-semetic. I think it has been aired on Cartoon Network reruns since. God...Family Guy is such a clever show and people don't realize that, like the Simpson's, it presents both sides of controversial issues in a humorous way. People who find that offensive are just plain dumb. And SCREW YOU VENEZUELA!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Quote
RegisteredAndEducated Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 I think the networks should be able to choose for themselves.. but they dont need a government censor saying they can or can't do something. Cable networks can. The problem is with ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox is they are over the airwaves broadcasts, and fall under strict FCC guidelines. The government actually owns the airwaves. Quote

The government shouldn't own anything. That sounds illegal. Quote Intelligent people think... how ignorance must be bliss.... idiots have it so easy, it's not fair... to have to think...
