ok, couple of issues I wanna pick you all's brains about since we all seem to be pretty computer savvy around here:

#1- This happens on 3 computers I own (one vista, 2 xp.) I will go to a web page, load the page, and then 5 or so seconds later, the page will move without me touching the mouse. Sometimes it makes sense, like here when I click on "First unread post" as the screen is resetting to where I told it to go, but other times it is completely random and may be up to 15 or so seconds after I load the page. I use Firefox, and a Microsoft Optical mouse on all the computers, but have tried other mice and it's no different. heck, maybe this is normal, lol.

#2- Flash freezes up. I have the latest Flash and Direct X, but a good example is Pool here in the arcade- it gets to the Pick a cue screen and gets stuck. I if click twice, it goes ahead and finishes the game- with a zero score. If I click once, it takes forever to get to the game screen, and then when I try to shoot the ball, it totally locks up the game. This seems to only happen on the Vista computer, although I have not tried it on the one XP. Any ideas?

3-hmm, there was something else, maybe I'll remember later.

In the first problem I don't have a clue what your talking about. My page stays steady and never moves. With three different computers I don't know but I would check the settings on the mouse in control pannel.

The second problem IS the new java program. It doesn't work with that pool game.

The problem with the pool game was discussed quite a while ago. I think it was Hugo and Snafu who had the problem. If I remember right, it was after an update of Flash. Snaf reverted to a previous version and it worked OK for him (am I wrong, snaf?). I bought a new computer this summer and I guess it had the latest and greatest - can't play pool, locks up when I draw the cue back on the break :(

EDIT: You must have posted while I was writing this, snaf.

Java bastards...

Mouse wise, I turned off the laptop mouse pad while I have an external mouse attached., Maybe that will help. That is about the only thing I saw that could cause a conflict.

I remember #3 now:

I have 4 USB ports on my home laptop (Vista) and I have an external powered 7-port USB hub plugged into one of them.

Certain devices will not work if plugged into the hub. Mouse, Keyboard, external drives- will not work right if in the USM hub- they have to be plugged into the computer. This is the second hub I am having this issue on. These things used to work fine. However, my printers work just fine in the hub.

For number 3 I would make sure that the external 7 port is 2.0 but those things go bad. I have one in the back of my computer now that's bad. It worked fine for a while then went tits up.

it is 2.0, and the brand new one acts the same as the old one...

The only reason something wouldn't work (that I can think of) when plugged into a USB port is that it is not receiving enough power. Mouse, Keyboard, Flash Drives, all derive their power from the USB port, whereas a printer would be plugged into the wall also. You might have a dead or dying port my boy. That, or the USB hub has too many things plugged into it... Or the hub is dead/dying...

I've been using a 4-port USB hub forever... and I keep my mouse, keyboard, and flash drive plugged in 24/7 (in my work desktop) and have no problems. Try to spread the power suckage out some by using smaller hubs over more USB ports.

That's a good idea. I have a couple of 4 port hubs I can try and see if that helps. :D

That makes sense. I have a cool pad plugged into the 7 port hub, and I bet that sucks a lot of power. I bet that helps! I'll let ya know. :)

Yeah that makes sense. A lot of USB products run power through them so you don't have to plug them into the wall anymore.

yeah, I didn't think about it because my 7 port hub is plugged into the wall. But I may just be overloading it.

Sometimes you can get a conflict with certain things in the USB ports as well, it is rare but it does happen, and as usual I have to have personal experiance with an exception, if I plug my Blackberry into my work desktop, my USB keyboard will stop working. I can unplug my keyboard then plug it back in and it will work for about 5 minutes then stop working again.

It took me several minutes to figure out what was happening. I unplugged my phone and everything was fine.

As far as your first issue I would have to see it to know what your talking about but if more than one has the same problem then maybe it is a program/application that you use that is on all of them. I know sometimes a big banner ad will not always load at first for me sometimes and when it does the entire page drops down for me, But it is obfiously the big ad so I am sure that is not what your talking about.

Everyone else already answered #2 for you.

Good luck.

Lemme try to explain this again. hmmm...

I load the page. Everything appears to load (but I cannot see the whole page) and like with the big ad you are talking about, about 5 or so seconds later the pages jumps a line or two, like I used the scroll wheel to scroll up or down a line- but I didn't. Sometimes it can be more around 10 seconds or so. and it just jumps.

Sometimes it jumps when I click, so I have to go refind where I was gonna click and then click again. Kinda frustrating.

I am playing now in IE, and it is doing the same thing, so it doesn't seem to be a Firefox issue.

The mouse options on this computer are different than mine at home, so I don't have the ability to turn off the laptop pad while an external mouse is hooked up (maybe it does it already?)

I dunno.

It sounds like your describing a slow page load but just longer than normal, you are on high speed right?

Sometimes connection speeds can play a part in sluggish page loading. Most viruses and malware can also use resources and use up bandwidth if their botting your computer.

Do you ever download movies or cracked software using a peer to peer program?

Yeah, everything is high speed, and it is acting just like slow page loading, but I really don't think that is it. Some of the pages this happens on have nothing impressive on them, or things that take time to load. It happens a good bit here, and there isn't anything here that should cause that.

I just read a forum post from like 1004 where someone else had this issue and they suggested downloading a newer mouse driver, so I think I'll try that.

And no, I don't use peer to peer or download movies. To afraid of viruses, lol.

it's in the bios

ahh yeah, I'll check that too. :)

I turned off the mousepad when an external mouse is plugged in and it just jumped as I was typing that, lol.

also reinstalled the mouse drivers.

darnit, I thought that may have done it.

Thats totally bizzar that it would do the same thing on three different computers but if it just started happening I would system restore to before it happened. It might be a conflict with a spyware or antivirus program you are using.

Your not using more than one antivirus program are you?

Yeah with three different computers and the same problem means you either have a virus on all of them from the same porno site you went to or two programs conflicting.

System restore isn't the answer- as the one computer is only a couple months old, and it has done it since it was new, and another has the issue both before and after it was re-formatted.

Virus scan isn't it either. One is runnin McAffe, one Norton, and one AVG. and yeah, only one per computer.

I haven't had an issue tonight, so maybe turning the mousepad on the laptop took care of it, I read some other forums that think it is an issue with the microsoft intellimouse, but I seem to recall it happening with a non-MS mouse my grandmother got me...

So your using the same mouse on all three computers? I'm tiring to figure out the similarity here. That's not a normal problem

same type of mouse. I have 3 Microsoft Optical wired mouses- one for each computer. All usb driven, all plugged right into the computer. One is on USB1, and the other two are USB2.

but, I remember having the issue with a wireless mouse, and a cool racecar mouse (non-microsoft) my gramma bought me.

I have a brand new Dell Optical mouse at work I could try and see if that makes a difference...

and it just did it when I tried to click on "Quote" beneath Snaf's post. When I clicked the mouse button, it jumped the page down so that the mouse was midway through my previous comment...
