WASHINGTON (AP) -- Nurses were training women in rural Mexico to examine their breasts for cancer when one raised her hand to object. If she lost her breast, Harvard public health specialist Felicia Knaul recalls the woman saying, "My man would leave me" - and with him, the family's income....

If the woman really believed her man would leave her.....why is she with him?

I am always surprised at the lack of standards some people have in their choices of mate. Don't get me wrong, I have had issues in the love department too, but I have never been with someone "I" thought would not be there for me if I was sick. Maybe they would not have been, but I would be damned if I would stick around if I believed that to be true.

These are low income women in Mexico, not college educated career women who can support themselves until a man with the standards she is looking for comes along to sweep her off her feet. All they know is getting married and having children.

Perhaps a fake breast outreach group to keep the men happy? heavy sarcasm

No sh!t. They probably got their hands on some American porn and now they think all their women should look like plastic porn stars, too.

I'm sure others have stories like this, but I have known women that after having a masectomy their men lose sexual interest in them. It's very sad, and it's not the womans fault, but it is a reality that some women I know have faced.

I'd rather have my wife alive with no breasts, than to have a deceased wife. :(

I'm trusted by more women.

Awww, I <3 you, eddo!

Yes, I know a couple of ladies who have had the same thing happen to them. Both had to undergo a double masectomy and not only did they have to deal with the physical and psychological pain of their surgery, but their husband left them not too long after the fact as well.

I want to cry just typing that. It's so unbelievable how shallow some people can be.

It seems to me the vow is "'Til death do us part" not "'Til death do us part or her tits are no longer to your liking".

So let me get this straight.......you don't think a poor woman can find a likewise poor man to marry who would be there for them when they are sick? What.....only rich guys can have that quality in your world? I always thought poor people in general were more likely to stick with each other while the rich having lots of money to support themselves would be more likely to cut and run.

Your again making excuses for woman, like they are blameless/innocent in all tings and the evil men are always to blame.

I agree with you Ali, it is a real shame that many people break up when a severe medical problem strikes a "loved one". I have seen the same thing with men who get cancers and even Impotence where the woman will take off and leave the man an emotional wreck.

I believe both men and women are more and more embracing this cut and run mentality. Why stick around when you can just leave and find a new mate? Many people don't even marry anymore. I believe "PART" of this is because we are less capable of dealing with another person's pain. The man or woman sees their "loved one" going through a very hard time, most likely even being grumpy and hard to get along with too because they are depressed, in pain, not thinking well.

Many people with these conditions become very hard to live with, and looking for the door has become an acceptable (to society) option. When I was a young man (long time ago) a woman or man who had run out on his mate when they needed them was unheard of, everyone in the community would have disowned them. Today society does not shun those who do this.

I call it the 'abortion mentality'. We as a society have become numb to even killing babies in the womb, we just don't care about right/wrong anymore, it is all about me, me, me, me, and even more me. If it is an inconvience, then cut it loose, let it go and never look back. Your baby an inconvience? Get rid of it. Your husband/wife an inconvience? Get rid of them. Your bills an inconvience, go bankrupt. Tired of working? Get on welfare. Don't like paying taxes? Lie on your tax forms.

I hate it, it really pisses me off sometimes to see how irresponsible we have become as a society. The real question? Will it get better or worse Ali?

I'm in no position to preach to anyone about this. I'm divorced.

Not flames, real questions of what your trying to say Ali.

What does "poor" have to do with anything? You broung it up as an excuse for women not having standards so I am asking you why you feel poor women and men can't be moral or care about each other to stay with them?

Being divorced does not mean you caused the cut-and-run action. I am divorced and the ex-was the one who found someone else on the internet, she took off, got pregnant by him, he dies in a car accident (yes he was drinking) and now she is raising a bastard child of a dead man.

Even if it was your fault, you can also learn from your mistakes and speak about it. A drunk can speak against drinking for example because they have been there and know the results of excessive drinking.

Is that any way to talk about the mother of your children.. and their brother/sister/'s?

Perhaps she didn't wanna be your property anymore, tough guy. Can ya blame her? I'm sure you can..

Hopefully you wont get in an accident and she has to raise your bastard children.. eh, tough guy?
