timesjoke Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 My Gators and Alabama are meeting up in what some (including me) are calling the true National Championship game this weekend. On all the polls they are number 1 and 2 in the Nation and whoever wins this game will be facing a lower ranked team for the BCS championship game, I believe this is another great example of how badly we need a playoff for college football. There has been a little talk that if Texas loses against Nebraska, that either Florida or Alabama with one loss should be ranked higher than TCU or Cincinnati so then what? Do they play each other again for the BCS title? Going by strength of schedule, Texas is close to Florida and Alabama but TCU and Cincinnati are not even close. Going by the numbers, a single loss Florida or Alabama is clearly better than either of those teams. But will the people with the power "want" to see them play again? I doubt it so they will manuver a different team into possition to play even though they are not worthy of the game. Now that the SEC has become so much more powerful than any other Football conference, this problem with having two or more teams in the top slots of the BCS will be more of an issue and I say we need to change things to create a playoff instead of letting a few guys decide who plays what games based on what they "think" will better for ratings and advertising income. edit Forgot to make my prediction for the game, Alabama up in the first half, Gators come back in the second half and win by 10 points. ImWithStupid Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 I believe this is another great example of how badly we need a playoff for college football. I agree. Like the time in 2001 when Nebraska played Miami, in the Rose Bowl, for the national championship, but Nebraska didn't even win the Big XII north, let alone the conference. (I know some changes to the BCS system has happened since then, but it's still greatly flawed) There has been a little talk that if Texas loses against Nebraska, that either Florida or Alabama with one loss should be ranked higher than TCU or Cincinnati so then what? Wouldn't much worry about the Huskers beating Texas so it won't be an issue. Quote
timesjoke Posted December 4, 2009 Author Posted December 4, 2009 Wouldn't much worry about the Huskers beating Texas so it won't be an issue. I agree that Texas should win but my point was the flaw in the BCS system. That said, I don't think Nebraska will be as much of a push over as some people think. Texas should win but I believe the line is 15 points, I don't think it will be by that much. Nebraska might have the motivation advantage while the Texas players might believe the hype and not take this game seriously. That is why Alabama lost to Utah last year in the sugar bowl, Alabama had a bad attitude after their loss to Florida and thought Utah was not in their league so they did not take Utah seriously. Utah cleaned the field with Alabama when it "should" have been an easy win for Alabama. When Florida beat Ohio for the National championship you had the same thing with Ohio, on paper Ohio was better and everyone was predicting Ohio to beat Florida. Ohio got the fast score and did nothing after that, my high school football team could have beat Ohio that day, but they were ranked #1 in the Nation and was easily beat by the team they did not take seriously. RegisteredAndEducated Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 As a UGA fan and someone who likes UF and all of the SEC teams, I can see where you're coming from. BUT, I think UF and all of the top 5 teams have had kind of a cream puff schedule this year compared to some of the other schools... This year, nobody really deserves to play for the national championship yet. We KNOW that at least one of the SEC teams will be national champions... well... going to the national championship, so I'm assuming they'll win, and they do have the harder of the cream puff schedules, but the whole BCS system sucks. I got kind of busy at work while I was typing this... and I lost my train of thought... err.... prediction... Florida will pull ahead early in the first, I'd say up by at least 10, and stay ahead. I'm torn between a totally dominating performance and a really close game. I'm leaning more toward Florida embarrassing the Tide. I'm saying 45-14, Florida over Alabama. eddo Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 college football sucks, and this is a big reason why. Quote I'm trusted by more women.
timesjoke Posted December 4, 2009 Author Posted December 4, 2009 college football sucks, and this is a big reason why. Why would you say it sucks? The game itself is awsome, just because the playoff situation has some big flaws, that does not make everything bad. You still have competition and team play, hard work and strategy, attention to detail and individual effort, there is a long list of great things about college football. BM, you want to talk about a tough schedule, how about Arkansas? Georgia, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, ole Miss, and LSU.......now there is a tough season. Quote

Sounds like our schedule, except we didn't play ourselves... and we didn't play alabama this year... timesjoke Posted December 6, 2009 Author Posted December 6, 2009 Well our defense did not show up to play football, we lost by a good margin but being beat by a team like Alabama with how they have been playing this year is no insult. I told you guys Nebraska was no pushover, Texas should have lost that game but sneaked out with a win purely by luck, they will not stand a chance against Alabama. Quote
RegisteredAndEducated Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 I'll take my crow fried... Ouch... I think I got close on the score... just not the teams... eesh.. That's the SEC... Two super tough teams stepped in, one played, one didn't, and you see the results. timesjoke Posted December 7, 2009 Author Posted December 7, 2009 I took a lot of crap from people too, but that goes with the terroritory, I never said the Gators would win big, I knew Alabama was a real force to be dealt with even if other people did not. What I did not plan for was our defense not being able to adjust and stop Alabama as they usually do, there was a lot of missed coverages and arm tackles that caused Alabama to get points that they should not have gotten. Then the lack of defense put more pressure on Tebow to try and cover and when you try too hard, sometimes you fail, as he did Saturday. At least we were beat by a truly great team, that is a little comfort. Quote
