atlantic Posted December 19, 2009 Posted December 19, 2009 I love my neighborhood, we are very diversified and broken down as is: The Bostons, San Diegos, Mexico's, Minnesotans, Tucson's, Cornville, AZ. We all get along great and do everything together. There is only one family who has never come out of their house. They drive 40mph down the road when the kids are playing out there, and up until recently have never come out or even waved to us. They occasionally have many men guest over after bombings in the middle East and it's like they are celebrating, we can see them through the windows. There is also one man who just starting visiting there a few months ago, and instead of parking in their driveway would leave his car in front of my house for days til I reported him. Now the women who would never look at us before come out with full burqas everyday and seem to be making a point to wave to us. My military friend jokes they have rpms. Any opinions? Old Salt Posted December 19, 2009 Posted December 19, 2009 They're probably waving at you, because you showed enough guts to report a MAN. They're probably also smiling at you under their burqas. Invite them in, and they can take those things off (as long as there is no man or boy in the house). Quote

I told the guy off too when he came to my door. Sorry I am not inviting them in though. I'm sure their men would not approve of them having tea with an outspoken American woman. Waving is about all I can do. Quote Do the right thing!

timesjoke Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 Nothing wrong with being observant. Consider how every time someone does something horrible, we get interviews from people who lived next to the person who all say "he was a quiet man" or "She seemed so nice". The reason is they never knew or payed attention to their neighbor and did not care one way or the other what or who they were. We used to know each other, we used to actually interact with those who live around us but these days we sit in our homes watching the television or typing on our computers and have no idea who we live next to. We have no idea what kinds of people our children are walking around as they play outside and walk down that street. I say keep your eyes open........ I agree with OS, the women most likely are happy you stood up to the man, in their society women are not allowed to question any man and cannot even claim they were raped by a man unless she has a male witness to back up her story. When you live in complete servitude, it must be a small pleasure to watch a man be put in his place by a woman even if she is an outsider. Quote

I took a pic of that dudes car & license plate. I don't mess around. If you are parked in front of my house loitering and I don't know you, I am going to write your plate # down. hugo Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 Back when I was a realtor I had a muslim family as clients. One time the husband was busy and the wife went alone with me to look at houses. She was acting giddy and I asked her what she was so happy about. She told me it was the first time she had been alone with a man besides her husband and family members. People do change. timesjoke Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 There are many segments of Muslim faith, the most severe and unstable are the Wahhabis. I also know several people who are Muslims and run businesses that are pretty much like anyone else. I find them refreshing because they hold onto moral values "modern" people have set aside. I do like people who have solid morals. I believe most of them are Kurdish that I know. Quote
