Federal authorities intercepted 23 pounds of methamphetamine hidden in a truck on a barge to Alaska earlier this month after a nine-month investigation that spanned the West Coast from Mexico to Alaska, according to the U.S. attorney.

Well that should clean up the streets for awhile. :D

Nice, as people complain the war on drugs is a failure, they have no idea just how many drugs are kept off the streets. If even half of these drugs that get stopped instead made it to the streets for use, we would have about 50% more people on welfare or dead from overdose.

23 pounds is an awful lot of meth. To bad they haven't gone over the boarder and nailed the cartel that supplied the crap.

They'd probably be out-gunned if they went up against the cartel.

Yeah I'm sure your right.

No. we would not. Busts are just an added cost of doing business. Another shipment will soon arrive. It does add some cost to the consumer, but addicts tend to pay the extra costs to get their fix.

Yeah but 23 pounds will be a lot to recover. I'm glad it's off the streets.

You have no clue as to how much drugs are kept from our streets and more importantaly, our children.

A massive amounts of drugs hitting the streets without restrictions would drop the price to a level where every person and child could easily afford large doses. People would over dose and binge like never before and families who were barely holding on would be broken apart.

The fantacy world some uneducated people have where legal drugs would not hurt society on the whole does not exist, sure it costs money to stop drug trafficking but it would cost 100 times more in social welfare to treat and take care of the drug addicts that would be about 30% of America should drugs be made legal.

America already tops the rest of the world for lazy, unmotivated people by far, everyone in that group would abuse drugs if you made it legal, not one lazy, stupid person would refrain from drug use if there was no penalty for that use. It would be just like speeding in America, almost everyone speeds because there is no real enforcement.

Why is it we did not have an overwhelming problem with cocaine addiction when coke was in cola? Idiots never learn, the black market causes more harm than any potential increase in drug use.

I am sure drug use went up quite a bit when Sarah gave every Alaskan a welfare check. The fact is it is easier for a kid to but marijuana than it is for him to buy beer.

I've been getting Permanent fund checks long before Sarah came into the picture but yeah I bet it did go up.

Just so you know hugo those checks are the result of a deal set up with big oil to pay rent for the use of the land. This rent money is invested so that it could make more money and seems to work pretty good.

Why is it we did not have an overwhelming problem

We did Hugo, you need to brush up on history a little bit before saying such uneducated crap.

People were addicted to drugs but society was a very unforgiving thing in the "good ole" days and peopel more often than not died from their addictions instead of having a long prolonged life of abuse that our current society makes possible.

with cocaine addiction when coke was in cola? Idiots never learn, the black market causes more harm than any potential increase in drug use.

Again, you obviously are only parroting liberal talking points and have no idea what your talking about. The black market is only possible if there is a need for something that is restricted that is big enough to risk the legal troubles that go with that risk.

If people want it so bad they are willing to risk jail, what makes liberals believe that desire will simply go away if you remove the illegal element from it? Alcohol is legal and people abuse it millions of times a day, the same will be true of any other recreational drug that suddenly is made legal.

I am sure drug use went up quite a bit when Sarah gave every Alaskan a welfare check. The fact is it is easier for a kid to but marijuana than it is for him to buy beer.

As Snaf pointed out, Sarah did not begin the process of Alaskans all benefitting from their shared resources, so your wrong about Sarah, she certainly continued the program and even got an increase just like my taxes for everything went up, but I am curious about something:

Explain how it is welfare for the people of Alaska to get a share of the profit from Alaska's resources?

Here in Florida I do not pay a State income tax because my State has higher taxes on the vacation industry, this is how all Floridians get to benefit from things like Disney World being in our State. I don't consider this to be welfare but instead part of the benefits that go with the downside of having so many dumb assed northern idiots clogging up my roads when I want to go somewhere.

So let's take this step by step and you tell me where you see a problem starting in the process:

1 - Alaska has a lot of oil in the ground.

2 - The people of Alaska through their State Government owns and controls access to that oil.

3 - The State negotiates with companies who want the oil to give the people of Alaska some compensation for their State resource being taken away and sold.

4 - The companies can say no if they feel the deal is not fair.

5 - The oil companies get the oil and the people of Alaska get compensated for the loss of the resource.

Where do you see the problem Hugo?

Do you believe a private company should get all that oil for free?

State income tax - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Texas ? no personal income tax or corporate income tax. In May 2007, the legislature replaced the franchise tax with a gross margins tax on businesses (sole proprietorships and some partnerships were automatically exempt; corporations with receipts below a certain level were also exempt), which was amended in 2009 to increase the exemption level. The Texas Constitution places severe restrictions on passage of a personal income tax and use of its proceeds.

If I remember rightly, this was made possible by Texas' vast oil resources, among other things.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Most of our taxes come from sales and property taxes. We sure don't get no checks every year.

Semantics.

If you benefit personally from the State taxing the oil companies through things like lower taxes in other ways it is the same thing. Your now talking degrees.

This is like my example of how we don't have an income tax in Florida, everyone in the State benefits from the tourist industry.

Hugo, I am still waiting on you to explain where in the process of Alaska selling their resources and the people getting to benefit from their sold resources that you have an issue with.
