Censored Beliefs on the Radio

I was listening to the radio, when one of the songs I happen to really like came on. Breakeven by The Script. They completely cut the line that says, "Just prayed to a God that I don't believe in," out of the song. That really annoys me. Most of you know I'm a Christian, but I find censoring out that line to be completely retarded. I think the line really adds something to the song. There is obviously a depth of feeling and pain there if he is willing to pray to God even though he does not believe in God. I just think this is absolutely crazy and can see no reason for them to do that. What do you guys think?

I have always though it interesting that the liberal groups like the ACLU have attacked even the slightest hint of religion in public schools and yet are completely silent of the new trend in many public schools to have special rules for Muslim students to allow for several prayer breaks during the day, some have even created special classes of just muslim students so there will be no bothering of the muslim students while they are doing their prayers.

 

 

The Muslims seem to be the wild card for the politically correct crowd to even let them ignore public school involvement in religion.

Actually, I think the challenge is from the Christians. Apparently, there are Christians raising a stick about him sayin he doesn't believe in God. I really hope that isn't why they cut it out, because I think it would be stupid to censor it just because someone doesn't want to accept the fact that there are athiests.

I agree, it's not worth it. That seems to be the general consensus on why they are censoring it, though. I heard about the complaints when the song first came out and thought it was stupid, but now they are playing the song without those lyrics and it is because of complaints by Christians who feel the line attacks their faith. That is just incredibly retarded.

Some shows play it and some don't. One of the radio shows during the day plays it with the line in, but the one earlier censored it out. There are a lot of stations now censoring the song. One of the other Blogs had the following:

I don't see a problem censoring the "praying to a God that I don't believe in" line. It's the only line I skip when singing along to it. It doesn't make the song any less listen-able.

I'm sure they do acknowledge that they have atheist/agnostic listeners, but they aren't forcing anybody to believe in anything. They are just being sensitive to their Christian listeners, just as they would if the song had the word "n r" in it. There isn't anything wrong with that at all. They are just being sure that they don't offend anybody.

 

As a Catholic, I am personally offended by that line, so I am happy with this decision.

I agree, if that really is the true reason stations are doing this then the people there are not really Christians in my way of thinking. This reminds me of the idiots who would advocate burning books and such, you can't force people to believe what you want them to believe by limiting access to things you think might steer them away from faith, it does not work that way. A true Christian knows the real faith and the drive to be closer to God comes from within, and no external elements can change that call.

 

Sure, we stumble on the path, we don't stop being human just because we choose faith, but we will still generally stay on that path of discovery because of the internal compas that pulls us in that direction.

Being that I'm against censorship, my belief that abortion shouldn't be censored actually fits quite nicely. When a person starts dying every time the uncensored version plays, I’ll reassess my view. Until then, stick to the topic.

The local (Christian) radio station in town here censors too. KLIR 101.1

 

They have actually lightened up a bit, but they still censor words to some songs.

 

Hell, a few years back, they wouldn't play ANYTHING by Madonna because she was such a "TABOO" artist according to one of the DJ's I talked to about it. They changed their minds after she had her first baby. Guess they decided it wouldn't hurt anything playing "LIKE A VIRGIN" or "LIKE A PRAYER" with songs like "AENEMA" being played on the radio.

I really think you should look up the definition of censor, censorship, and uncensored before you join in. lol, really. I hear my kids singing along to some of these songs and I tell them to stop. Then they ask me why since they don't get the sexual innuendo behind it. So now I just tell them because it's nasty and one day you'll understand the real meaning behind it. So far that satisfies them and they don't do it anymore, at least not in my presence.

I like it when they get things totally wrong. For example...Fall Out Boy (I hate) anyways..there's a line that says "this ain't a city it's a damned arms race"...but they say "this ain't a city it's a dead ostrich". I like their line better.
